    Abstract: The present application relates to a liquid crystal composition, a polarizing element and a use of the polarizing element. Since the polarizing element may be prepared by a simple coating process, the guest host type liquid crystal composition of the present application allows not only for reducing the manufacturing cost and lightweight thinning of the polarizing element, but also for manufacturing the polarizing element showing an excellent heat resistant stability without changes of absorption spectrum to transmission spectrum even in a severe condition such as high temperature environment. Such a polarizing element can be applied to various display devices such as liquid crystal display devices, EL display devices, field emission display devices, display devices using electronic papers, projection display devices or piezoelectric ceramic display devices.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for compensating optical dispersion over an optical fiber are provided in fiber optic communications to increase a transmission distance by overcoming the optical dispersion caused by wavelength changes of light sources and dispersion effects of a fiber. In one implementation, the present technology may be implemented in the form of a RLC passive microwave filter with no extra power consumption. By way of example, an optical receiver may include a photodiode operable to receive an optical signal and produce an electrical signal, a transimpedance amplifier (TIA) operable to receive the electrical signal and produce a first amplified signal, and an electronic dispersion compensation (EDC) device operable to receive the first amplifier signal from the TIA and compensate or reduce the effects of optical dispersion on the received electrical signal.

The programmable device is coupled to the processing device and configured to receive data relating to digital diagnostic monitoring information (DDMI) of the optical transceiver from the processing device, perform forward error correction encoding on the DDMI data to produce a remote digital diagnostic monitoring (RDDM) signal, and send the RDDM signal to the optical subassembly as a second signal to modulate for transmission. The optical subassembly is configured to current modulate the second signal on the first signal to produce a double modulated optical signal for transmission to the remote device.
