The sealing lid system includes the protruding lid hinged to the cartridge body and a sealing geometry that protrudes about an outer perimeter thereof for a sealing engagement with an upper receiving surface of the cartridge body. The biodegradable beverage cartridge optionally includes a biodegradable polymer or a non-biodegradable polymer. Adaptive beverage cartridge shapes are provided to fit a particular beverage cartridge preparation system.
