Abstract: A compact and portable optical shaving device cuts hair shafts using electromagnetic radiation. In various embodiments, the optical shaving device includes a power source that connects to one or more optical components (e.g., arranged in an array). An optic, such as a blade, can connect to and aligns with the array of optical components. The optical component(s) can provide light to the optic based on electrical energy from the power source. The optical component(s) or the optic can manipulate and direct the electromagnetic radiation to cut the hair shafts.

Abstract: A process includes obtaining information relating to a biological tissue. The process also includes determining a treatment parameter from the information relating to the biological tissue. The process further includes delivering electromagnetic radiation having the treatment parameter to the biological tissue. An apparatus includes an interface capable of obtaining information relating to a biological tissue. The apparatus also includes a processor in communication with the interface, the processor capable of determining a treatment parameter from the information relating to the biological tissue. The apparatus further includes a source of electromagnetic radiation in communication with the processor, the source capable of delivering electromagnetic radiation having the treatment parameter to the biological tissue.

Abstract: The invention features a detachable handpiece for treating biological tissue using electromagnetic radiation. The handpiece includes a connector adjacent a first portion of the handpiece, for detachably connecting the handpiece to an umbilicus and for receiving energy from a power conduit in the umbilicus. The handpiece also includes a source of electromagnetic radiation adjacent a second portion of the handpiece and in communication with the connector, for receiving energy from the connector to drive the source of electromagnetic radiation.
