Patent number: 8745425Abstract: Provided is a computer system in which power consumption of the system can be reduced and which can smoothly supply data for a request from a client and avoid increase in a failure rate. In the computer system, by maintaining a power activation threshold for activating a stopping server blade and load balance threshold for assigning the request to a server blade, a server blade whose power is activated but to which the request from the client is not assigned is previously arranged. Priorities of the server blades are maintained, and are periodically changed or are changed in accordance with operation information such as total operation time and the number of times of activation/stop. Further, by maintaining the power activation threshold and a power stop threshold, possibilities of the unbalance among the activated/stopped server blades and frequent control of the activation/stop only in a part of server blades are avoided.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2008Date of Patent: June 3, 2014Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Yasuhiro Kameda, Hirofumi Fujita, Satoshi Oguni, Morihide Nakaya

Patent number: 8700779Abstract: A server system has, in addition to extensibility of scale-out type of a braid server system, extensibility of scale-up type by making SMP coupling among nodes. Each node has a unit for SMP coupling to other nodes. A module management unit responds to system configuration information to switch between a mode in which the node operates singularly as a braid server and a mode in which the node operates as a constituent module of an SMP server. Links among individual nodes are laid through equidistant wiring lines on a back plane and additionally a loop wiring line having a length equal to that of the inter-node link on the back plane is also laid in each node, thereby setting up synchronization among the nodes. Synchronization of reference clocks for SMP coupled nodes is also established.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2010Date of Patent: April 15, 2014Assignees: Hitachi, Ltd., Hitachi Information & Telecommunication Engineering, Ltd.Inventors: Morihide Nakaya, Shisei Fujiwara

Patent number: 8271772Abstract: A computer system comprises two or more computers including at least one standby computer and a management computer which controls the computers. The management computer manages unique identification information which is assigned to an Ethernet controller of each computer. When a failure has occurred to an active computer, the management computer sets the unique identification information which has been assigned to the Ethernet controller of the failed computer to the Ethernet controller of the standby computer and the standby computer boots up a software image for the failed computer by use of the unique identification information which has been set to its Ethernet controller by the management computer.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2009Date of Patent: September 18, 2012Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Norihiko Komoriya, Hirofumi Fujita, Morihide Nakaya, Akihiro Umezawa, Hideyuki Osakada
