Patent number: 10362147Abstract: Increasing the processing load on the server is suppressed in a network system in which response requests are intermittently transmitted from a client to a server. A network system has a client configured to transmit response requests at a specific time interval, and a server configured to send a response to the client according to a received response request. The server calculates a communication interval indicating an interval at which the client is to transmit its response request based on a factor affecting the processing load of the server, and sends communication interval information indicating the calculated communication interval to the client. The client transmits its response request at the time interval indicated by the communication interval information received from the server.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 2016Date of Patent: July 23, 2019Assignee: SEIKO EPSON CORPORATIONInventors: Morimichi Mizuno, Takayuki Yamamoto, Akio Takamoto

Patent number: 10147260Abstract: An image processing method corrects an image acquired from a medium exposed to ultraviolet light and makes parts printed with UV ink easily recognizable. A control device acquires a first image captured by an image sensor from a check exposed to visible light, and acquires a second image captured by the image sensor from the check when exposed to ultraviolet light. The control device generates a first edge image by applying an image processing filter that extracts edges in the first image, and generates a second edge image by applying an image processing filter that extracts edges in the second image. The control device then finds common edges where a first edge extracted in the first edge image and a second edge extracted in the second edge match each other, removes the common edges from the second edge image, and outputs a second image from which the common edges are removed.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2015Date of Patent: December 4, 2018Assignee: SEIKO EPSON CORPORATIONInventors: Takayuki Yamamoto, Morimichi Mizuno

Patent number: 9691211Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes an image acquiring unit that reads the front surface of a medium irradiated with first light to acquire a first image, and reads the front surface of the medium irradiated with second light including ultraviolet rays to acquire a second image, by driving an image sensor, a first corrected-image generating unit that generates a first corrected image by decreasing brightness of the first image, a second corrected-image generating unit that generates a second corrected image by increasing contrast of the second image, and a synthetic image generating unit that generates a synthetic image by synthesizing the first corrected image and the second corrected image.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 2015Date of Patent: June 27, 2017Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventors: Takayuki Yamamoto, Morimichi Mizuno

Patent number: 9189696Abstract: A recording device and a control method for a recording device improve the accuracy of reading MICR information while also shortening the time required for recording media processing. A dot impact printer 10 has a magnetic head 34 that magnetically reads MICR information recorded on a recording medium S, a recording head 18 that is mounted on a different carriage than the magnetic head 34 and records images on the recording medium S, and a back scanner 112 that optically reads MICR information recorded on the recording medium S, disposed sequentially to the transportation path P of the recording medium S. When reading the MICR information by means of the magnetic head 34 does not succeed, the recording medium S is conveyed to the back scanner 112, the MICR information is read by the back scanner 112, the reading results are compared, and the MICR information is identified.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 2014Date of Patent: November 17, 2015Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventors: Toshihiro Imae, Masashi Fujikawa, Yoshiaki Kinoshita, Morimichi Mizuno
