  • Patent number: 5531290
Abstract: A safety apparatus for a fuel tank in a vehicle includes a fuel tank for storing fuel, a gelling agent tank for storing a gelling agent which can gelatinize the fuel, a supply system for supplying the gelling agent in the gelling agent tank to the fuel tank, a tank-emergency detecting system for detecting an emergency in the fuel tank, and a control system for outputting a drive signal to drive the supply system. The control system outputs the drive signal under the condition that the tank-emergency detecting system outputs an emergency detection signal indicating an emergency in the fuel tank.

  • Patent number: 5469947
Abstract: There is disclosed a fluid clutch device for controlling transmission of motive power of a vehicular engine to accessory equipment such as an oil pump for a power steering mechanism or an air compressor for an air conditioner. The clutch device includes first and second members arranged for relative rotation about a common axis. The first member is operated by the vehicular engine while the second member is constructed to operate the accessory equipment. The first and second members are accommodated in a hermetically sealed clutch casing which is filled with an electroviscous fluid. A source of high voltage potential is provided for applying a voltage to the electroviscous fluid, and various units for generating information regarding driving of the accessory equipment are also used.

  • Patent number: 5429166
Abstract: An apparatus for regulating the pneumatic pressure of a tire according to the invention calculates the pressure difference between the specified pneumatic pressure entered therein through an input section and the actual pneumatic pressure of a tire measured by a pressure sensor and operates its air charging or discharging valve by specifying an extent of openness of the valve and a time for keeping the valve open as a function of the obtained pressure difference. Thereafter, it calculates the rate of change in the pneumatic pressure of the tire from the actual pneumatic pressure of the tire measured for the second time during the valve is kept open and, at the same time, the pressure difference between the specified pneumatic pressure value and the actual pneumatic pressure of the tire measured for the second time.

  • Patent number: 5370543
Abstract: An electrical connector is disclosed which includes first and second connector housings for holding first and second terminals, respectively, a short-circuiting element accommodated in the first housing in electrical contact with two first terminals, a sliding element arranged on the second housing, and an urging element for urging the sliding element in a direction forward from the second housing. The first housing includes a pair of resiliently-deformable engaging arms each having an engaging protrusion. The second housing, releasably fitted to the first housing, includes a pair of first guide grooves for receiving the engaging arms. Each first guide groove has an engaging portion with which the engaging protrusion is held in engagement and a stepped wall portion formed adjacent to the front end of the second housing. The sliding element has a front tongue engageable with the short-circuiting element to disengage the same from the two first terminals.
