  • Patent number: 5644373
Abstract: A liquid crystal device having a pair of substrates opposed to each other at a predetermined distance from each other, and a liquid crystal enclosed between the pair of substrates. The pair of substrates are formed of different materials, and the difference between the thermal expansion coefficients of the substrates is set within the range of .+-.50% of the thermal expansion coefficient of one of the two substrates. Misalignment between the substrates is thereby prevented.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 26, 1994
Date of Patent: July 1, 1997
    Assignee: Canon Kabushiki Kaisha
Inventors: Teruhiko Furushima, Shigetoshi Sugawa, Moriyuki Okamura, Masaru Kamio, Mamoru Miyawaki
  • Patent number: 5410423
Abstract: In fabricating a liquid crystal panel, preparing a substrate sized larger than the same at a finished state, following to bonding the prepared substrate, an excess peripheral portion of the substrate is cut off. A dummy seal having an opening portion at least in part thereof is formed on the excess portion of the substrate. And, the opening portion of the dummy seal is sealed off to make the dicing after bonding of upper and lower substrates and curing of the seal.

  • Patent number: 5026395
Abstract: An intraocular lens having a lens base and a coating layer disposed on or otherwise operably associated with a first surface of the lens base. The coating layer is formed by, for example, plasma polymerization of a monomer gas while simultaneously sublimating or evaporating an ultraviolet absorber, thereby forming an intraocular lens which absorbs ultraviolet rays and prevents any free monomer or other substance from oozing out of the lens base and permeating the eye. The properties of the intraocular lens can be readily varied by selecting different monomer gases.
