  • Patent number: 6714180
Abstract: A method for developing gray scale pixels on a computer display comprises the steps of examining image content data for display on at least a portion of a computer display to determine whether the image content comprises computer graphics or continuous tone images; and choosing from among spatial and temporal gray scaling for the image content data in response to whether the image content comprises computer graphics or continuous tone images.

  • Publication number: 20030030618
Abstract: A method and apparatus for sensing changes in digital video data includes a display control device which includes a video data interface, a detector and a controller. The video data interface receives digital video data. The detector determines whether image data is static by calculating the CRC of digital video data. The controller generates control signals in response to the detection of static digital video data. The controller may be coupled to one or more devices, including the backlight of a video display device. The backlight may be turned off when static data is detected. The backlight may be turned on again when non-static data is detected. Efficient power management is provided by controlling the state of a device based upon digital video data content.
    Type: Application

  • Patent number: 6401144
Abstract: A method and apparatus for ensuring that information transfers from memory to a peripheral device are complete prior to the peripheral device executing instructions responsive to the content of the information is described. The method includes identifying lines of data to be written, determining a unique start code to be used for that data, and embedding that start code into that data. When the proper number of lines of data have arrived in peripheral device memory, the pending operation is executed.
