    Abstract: The invention relates to a novel method of improving the torsional rigidity and the torsional strength of straight or curved beams and girders, columns, struts, arch ribs and other elongate structural members whose cross section includes two or more parallel or approximately parallel flanges. The invention achieves the improvement through the attachment of an additional troughlike element so that a tube-type form connecting the flanges is created.
