  • Publication number: 20140187906
Abstract: A system and method for measuring volumes and areas using electromagnetic induction techniques. A current is generated and fed into one of two coil assemblies to induce voltage into another coil assembly to provide accurate values for volume or area.

  • Publication number: 20140032120
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide methods of extracting optimal information from a flow/volume loop concerning the patient's respiratory condition by examining the overall shape of the space under the flow/volume loop's expiration portion. In some embodiments, this is done with reference to the center of mass of that space. In some embodiments, this is done with reference to the area of that space. Some embodiments are significantly less affected by random/statistical variations and/or noise within the measurement system than existing methods.

  • Publication number: 20130211256
Abstract: The invention relates to medical monitoring apparatuses, methods, and computer programs for determining power or work as a function of time for individual myocardial segments based on strain and pressure measurements. Compared to prior art determinations of determination of mechanical power or work for individual segments, the invention is advantageous as it provides such determination solely from a pressure measurement or estimate and a measurement of strain, preferably by echocardiography, such as speckle tracking ultrasound imaging. This allows a fast, easy and non-invasive determination with high temporal and spatial resolution. A number of indices for segment work can be calculated which can be used as markers for the individual segment function as well as for a selection of patient for CRT.

  • Patent number: 8337429
Abstract: A coil device is provided having a member adapted to extend around and conform to an outer surface of a subject and a conductor adapted to extend only once around a first portion of the subject. The coil device can be positioned about the subject in order to measure a volume of the subject. When placed about the subject in the presence of a relatively homogeneous magnetic field, the conductor can generate a signal indicative of a volume of the first portion of the subject. The coil device may also include two or more conductors separately generating signals indicating volumes of two or more corresponding portions of the subject. In some cases the coil device includes associated authorization data that can limit use of the coil device. Systems and methods incorporating the coil device are also provided.
