  • Patent number: 5090736
Abstract: An identification card of the kind including at least two and usually three resin sheets bonded together, with identification data at an interface between sheets visible through the outermost sheet, which is transparent, and incorporates added anti-tampering protection in the form of a band or other limited area weldment between the sheets usually formed by an ultrasonic weldment; the weldment is clearly visible due to surface distortion caused by it but is not so extensive as to prevent effective viewing of the identification data in its limited area. In a more particularized aspect of the invention, a portion of the identification data is more significant than the remainder of the data and thus more susceptible to being tampered with and the weldments are placed in this susceptible area of the identification data.

  • Patent number: 4545838
Abstract: A laminating film product for applying a sealed protective cover to a document such as an identification card has a cover film of an unoriented polyester resin extruded onto a surface of a transfer film of an oriented thermoset polyester resin that has been coated with a release agent such as a soap; a film of a thermoplastic adhesive resin may be extruded onto the exposed surface of the cover film. In use, the laminating film product is laminated to a document under heat and pressure, the transfer film is stripped away, and the exposed cover film is embossed. Magnetic strips, pigment strips, and the like may also be applied to the cover film by hot stamp transfer.

  • Patent number: 4456639
Abstract: A transparent protective laminating film for forming a sealed protective cover on an identification card or similar document, comprising a base film of biaxially oriented thermoset polyester resin with an inner surface coating of polyethylene or other heat-and-pressure activated thermoplastic resin, has an additional outer surface layer of unoriented embossable thermoplastic polyester resin to permit embossure with a security pattern; the outer surface layer is also receptive to a signature strip formed by embossure, to a pigment signature strip or a resin-oxide magnetic strip applied by hot stamp transfer, or any combination of such strips.
