    Abstract: Optical and optoelectronic articles incorporating an amorphous diamond-like film are disclosed. Specifically, the invention includes optical or optoelectronic articles containing an amorphous diamond-like film overlying two or more proximate substrates, and to methods of making optical and optoelectronic articles. In certain implementations, the film comprises at least about 30 atomic percent carbon, from about 0 to about 50 atomic percent silicon, and from about 0 to about 50 atomic percent oxygen on a hydrogen-free basis. Another embodiment includes optical or optoelectronic articles containing an amorphous diamond-like film that is further coated with a metallic or polymeric material for attachment to a device package.

    Abstract: A device for forming an ion sheath in a plasma to deposit coatings on a non-conducting substrate. The device comprises a tubular reaction chamber having an outer surface wound helically with a first electrode having a first width. Helical winding of the first electrode provides a plurality of first wraps around the outer surface of the tubular reaction chamber. The device further includes a second electrode having a second width that is larger than the first width. Helical winding of the second electrode provides a plurality of second wraps alternating with the first wraps around the outer surface of the tubular reaction chamber. An ion sheath in a plasma forms to a thickness extending at least to the longitudinal axis of the tubular reaction chamber when the first electrode has a connection to a source of radio-frequency power and the second electrode provides a path to ground.

    Abstract: A sorbent media protective device includes an enclosure having a gas inlet, gas outlet and a thin-film multilayer indicator. The thin-film multilayer indicator is proximate sorbent media that can sorb a vapor of interest flowing from the gas inlet towards the gas outlet. The indicator includes a porous detection layer whose optical thickness changes in the presence of the vapor, located between a semireflective layer and a reflective layer permeable to the vapor. With equilibration at the applied vapor concentration between at least a portion of the media and the vapor, the vapor can pass through the reflective layer into the detection layer and change the detection layer optical thickness sufficiently to cause a visibly discernible change in the indicator appearance if viewed through the semireflective layer.
