  • Publication number: 20140332581
Abstract: A stapling element is provided, operative to pierce and penetrate a tissue by a first end, and close around the tissue. Three factors help prevent local necrosis: 1. The self-closing feature of the staple does not lead to tissue crushing. 2. Edge seams are applied generally perpendicular to the tissue edge, allowing for blood supply to the tissue edge. 3. Excess tissue is cut off at the seam, minimizing the amount of tissue that may undergo local necrosis. A physical feature prevents the staple from rotating, when in an application shaft, to maintain a predetermined closing direction. The stapling element may be formed of an alloy, a pure metal, a polymer, or a composite of at least two materials. Additionally, staplers, anastomosis devices, and methods for their applications are described.

  • Publication number: 20140107407
Abstract: A gastric band of a belt type is presented for attaching around a circumference of a patient's stomach, so as to define the diameter of the stomach opening. The band comprises outer and inner surfaces, wherein the inner surface engages the stomach, and at least the outer surface is formed by an elongated member substantially non-extendable along a longitudinal axis thereof. A through-going opening is made in the elongated member and is located so as to define an end portion of the band having a predetermined length. An opposite end portion of the band is shaped so as to be insertable into the through-going opening for adjusting a desired inner diameter of the band in its closed operating position and fastening the opposite end portion to the outer surface of the band.

  • Patent number: 8617188
Abstract: A pre-rolled surgical mesh which allows its insertion to the abdominal cavity and having a comfortable lead and spread to a proper location. The pre-rolled mesh is double rolled from two opposite directions one toward the other. There is a device that holds, leads, releases and spreads the mesh in its proper location, related to the Hernia defect, and includes an element holds the double-rolled mesh, and allows its releasing; another element allows the spreading of the double-rolled mesh; additional element allows the leading and locating of the double-rolled mesh. A second shape assumed when spreading the mesh, as the center of the mesh matches the desired location, while the elements, which held and spread each side of the double rolled mesh had been released.

  • Publication number: 20130035704
Abstract: A prepackaged mesh unit which comprises a spreadable sheet, a guide rod configured for remotely positioning the spreadable sheet within a body cavity, and a plurality of self-extending elements collapsed with the spreadable sheet and held at one end by the guide rod, wherein the self-extending elements have an elastic property and store elastic energy while collapsed with the spreadable sheet, wherein the number and configuration of the self-extending elements is selected to match a size and shape of the spreadable sheet.

  • Publication number: 20090125041
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to surgical mesh, and in particular to the manner in which the mesh is pre-rolled, which allows its insertion to the abdominal cavity, and its comfortable lead and spread to its proper location for every average surgeon, and to devices and methods of its application. According to the present invention, there is provided a pre-rolled mesh, double rolled from two opposite directions, one toward the other. There is a device that holds, leads, releases and spreads the mesh in its proper location, related to the Hernia defect, and comprising an element holds the double-rolled mesh, and allows its releasing; another element allows the spreading of the double-rolled mesh; additional element allows the leading and locating of the double-rolled mesh. A second shape assumed when spreading the mesh, as the center of the mesh matches the desired location, while the elements, which held and spread each side of the double rolled mesh had been released.

  • Publication number: 20080277450
Abstract: A stapling element is provided, operative to pierce and penetrate a tissue by a first end, and close around the tissue. The staple is adapted for joining tissue of diverse geometries, for example, joining edge to edge, joining two or more layers together, and joining a mesh, or a patch to the tissue. The application devices provide ergonomic means for staple application in difficult-to-reach places.
