  • Patent number: 7429761
Abstract: A high power diode includes a cathode for emitting a primary electron discharge, an anode, and a porous dielectric layer, e.g. a honeycomb ceramic, positioned between the cathode and the anode for receiving the primary electron discharge and emitting a secondary electron discharge. The diode can operate at voltages 50 kV and higher while generating an electron beam with a uniform current density in the range from 1 A/cm2 to >10 kA/cm2 throughout the area of the cathode. It is capable of repetitively pulsed operation at a few Hz with pulse duration from a few nanoseconds to more than a microseconds, while the total number of pulses can be >107 pulses. The diode generates minimal out-gassing or debris, i.e. with minimal ablation, providing a greater diode lifetime, and can operate in a high vacuum environment of 10?4 Torr. The high power diode is useful in many applications requiring a high current electron beam.

  • Patent number: 5132638
Abstract: A klystron amplifier in which the drift tube is in the form of a casing and a central member disposed coaxially about the same centerline to form a coaxial space between the central member and the casing which runs parallel to the centerline, and through which the klystron's electron beam flows. The casing and central member are maintained at ground potential, which maintains the space charge of the electron beam at a low level, permitting the klystron to operate more efficiently and output higher power.

  • Patent number: 4970734
Abstract: A shower stall booth is converted into a bath by supporting an integral sheet of waterproof material against the upstanding walls of the shower stall. Support components extend across the open side of the shower stall to further support the waterproof sheet. A second embodiment enables the waterproof insert to extend outward from within the stall shower to any desired length and breadth. A third embodiment enables the waterproof tub insert to extend upward to any desire height. Fourth and fifth embodiments accomplish the shower stall bath conversion by means of affixing either a watertight wall or a partial tub insert to the open side of the shower stall.

  • Patent number: 4780647
Abstract: A system for providing a compact, high power particle accelerator powered by a modulated intense relativistic electron beam. In a preferred embodiment a first source develops a high power intense relativistic electron beam (IREB). A modulating apparatus modulates the IREB with a low power level RF signal to produce a high power MIREB. All of the kinetic energy from the high power MIREB is then stored as a high level of electromagnetic or RF energy in an accelerating apparatus. A particle beam from a source is modulated with the RF signal to establish a phase coherency between the modulated particle beam and the stored RF energy before it is passed through the accelerating apparatus. This phase coherent particle beam is accelerated by the stored RF energy as it drains this energy from the accelerating apparatus during its passage through the accelerating apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4631447
Abstract: A device for converting the kinetic energy of an intense relativistic electron beam (IREB) into trains of multi-gigawatt AC electrical pulses comprising a foilless diode for generating an IREB and injecting the IREB into one end of a drift tube. The device further includes a modulating circuit for modulating the IREB current while in the drift tube to obtain longitudinally spaced bunches of electrons, and a coaxial transmission line with the end of its center conductor disposed across the other end of the drift tube in the path of the IREB. A gap is disposed between the end of the drift tube and the end of the center conductor. The modulated IREB induces a voltage in the coaxial transmission line. This voltage appears across the gap to slow down the electrons and to convert the kinetic energy of the IREB into electrical energy that propagates along the coaxial transmission line.

  • Patent number: 4227170
Abstract: A current-reducing device (fuse or switch) is described comprising a foil mber of Al or Mg which is immersed in a fluid with which it will chemically react (such as H.sub.2 O or H.sub.2 O.sub.2) above a certain temperature. The foil member is an electrical conductor but becomes an electrical insulator as a result of the chemical reaction.

  • Patent number: 4215291
Abstract: A collective particle accelerator including an intense relativistic elect beam (IREB) generator, an automodulation section, an acceleration region and injection region. A negative high voltage is applied to a ring cathode which produces an IREB. The IREB propagates through the accelerator. On propagating through the automodulation section, the electrons are modulated thereby forming them into ring-shaped bunches. The acceleration section is surrounded by a longitudinal uniform magnetic field along its length and is provided with special magnetic field means which changes the uniform magnetic field to a rippled magnetic field. The rippled magnetic field causes the bunches of electrons to contract and expand radially as they propagate through the rippled magnetic field which in turn causes ions or electrons injected into the system to be accelerated by attraction or repulsion as the electron rings contract and expand radially.
