    Abstract: Systems and methods for wireless communications are provided. More particularly, disclosed aspects generally relate to an apparatus with an improved antenna design and use thereof. According to these aspects, the apparatus includes a substrate, first antennas disposed in the substrate, and second antennas disposed in the substrate. Each of the first antennas are configured to have a peak gain in one or more first directions substantially perpendicular to the substrate and each of the second antennas are configured to have a peak gain in one or more second directions substantially diverging from the first directions. According to these aspects, a subset of first and the second antennas contributing to the communications session can be determined and power for gain amplifiers not associated with the subset can be reduced.
