Abstract: A method of generating an antimicrobial agent is disclosed. The method comprises: (a) culturing Bacillus cells in a medium under conditions effective to allow secretion of at least one antimicrobial agent into the medium; and (b) purifying the at least one antimicrobial agent from the medium to generate a purified preparation comprising the at least one antimicrobial agent. Uses of the antimicrobial agents secreted from the Bacillus cells are also disclosed.

Abstract: A method of culturing bacteria of the Bacilli class is disclosed. The method comprises: (a) adding the bacteria to a medium comprising pasteurized starch fibers of a legume of a leguminous plant, and (b) culturing the bacteria under conditions that promote generation of a biofilm of the bacteria on the starch fibers.

Compositions of matter made of a substrate having deposited on a surface thereof (e.g., by thermal evaporation) hydrocarbon waxes, including fluorinated waxes, are disclosed. Process of preparing such compositions of matter and articles of manufacturing incorporating such compositions are also disclosed. Further disclosed are articles of manufacturing and methods which are useful in inhibiting, reducing and/or retarding biofilm formation, and which include applying waxes (e.g., by thermal evaporation) on a surface of the articles.
