  • Patent number: 9008664
Abstract: An architecture that can redirect communications upon detection of a handover failure in a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network is described. The architecture can obtain information indicative of a handover failure that is available in a first portion of the LTE network (e.g., a serving gateway) that has no control over the communication path. The architecture can utilize the information to instruct a second portion of the LTE network (e.g., a mobility management entity), one that can control the communication path but conventionally has no access to the handover information, to reroute the communication path to avoid unresponsive or failing network entities.

  • Publication number: 20150003331
Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods are disclosed for routing data to mobile devices that undergo handovers from one access point to another. In one embodiment, a processor performs operations including obtaining a network location of a mobile device, updating a mapping table with the network location of the mobile device, obtaining a request to transfer a data packet to the mobile device, routing the data packet to the mobile device according to the mapping table, and forwarding the network location to a source of the data packet. Additional embodiments are disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20140347996
Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for providing on-demand quality of service guarantees in a wireless network environment. The system determines an on-demand quality of service for a segment of a communication path between a user equipment communicating with a radio access network connected to a core network and an external network connected to the core network. The system then determines if the on-demand quality of service for the segment meets a quality of service requirement. If the on-demand quality of service for the segment does not meet the quality of service requirement, the system identifies an alternate communication path between the user equipment and the external network, wherein the alternate communication path differs from the communication path. The system can then setup the alternate communication path for traffic between the user equipment and the external network.

  • Publication number: 20140235233
Abstract: Performance issues of wireless equipment (WE) or a wireless network are diagnosed through an alternative communication channel enabled by an alternative wireless network available to the WE. A service platform (SP) probes performance condition of the WE through a mobility control node (MCN) and, in response to a fault condition, collects data related to operation of the WE. Based at least on part of the data, the SP diagnoses the fault condition and related performance issue(s). To probe performance, the SP requests the MCN to collect data related to performance metric(s) of the WE. The alternative communication channel is established, and such data is collected therefrom, in response to low-grade connectivity amongst the MCN and the WE. The SP notifies the WE of at least the fault condition through the MCN or, in case of network fault condition, via the alternative communication channel.

  • Patent number: 8797883
Abstract: A method and apparatus for processing timeout events in a packet network are disclosed. For example, the method detects a timeout event by a first network element, wherein the timeout event is generated due to a lack of response from a second network element. The method then determines whether a threshold for reporting of timeouts is exceeded for the second network element. The method then generates a report by the first network element to a fault management system if the threshold is exceeded, where the report indicates that the second network element has exceeded the threshold for reporting of timeouts.

  • Patent number: 8760999
Abstract: System(s), method(s), and device(s) that enable recovery of a core network (e.g., UMTS, GSM) during a disaster or other disruption are presented. A service recovery controller component can monitor connectivity in the communication network, can detect a disruption or loss of connectivity in the packet-switched (PS) core network, and, when a disruption or loss of connectivity is detected, can automatically re-route data or voice traffic between a radio network controller(s) and an internet protocol (IP) multimedia subsystem (IMS) core network via a direct interface(s) to enable communications to continue between communication devices. The service recovery controller component can continue to monitor connectivity in the communication network, and can detect when connectivity is re-established with the PS core network. When connectivity is re-established, the service recovery controller component can route data or voice traffic via the PS core network.

  • Patent number: 8665861
Abstract: A method automatically detects and isolates total, partial, and latent total failures of one or more network segments by analyzing delay data collected by an internet protocol monitor during the set-up or termination of an internet protocol connection. The overall and/or intermediate delays of protocol messages exchanged during the set-up or termination of an internet protocol call connection are monitored and flagged based on threshold values. By analyzing the overall and/or intermediate delays, one or more potential problem segments can be isolated.

  • Patent number: 8634389
Abstract: A method includes establishing a first communication path from an access point to a service assurance platform via a first network. The access point is configured to provide a wireless local area network. The method includes establishing a second communication path from the access point to the service assurance platform via a mobile device coupled to a second network. The second communication path is distinct from the first communication path. The method includes initiating transmission of a message from the access point to the service assurance platform via the mobile device. The message is associated with an issue detected by a device coupled to the wireless local area network.

  • Patent number: 8584181
Abstract: An initiating viewer identifies a multimedia channel and submits a request to share the multimedia channel with at least one recipient viewer at another viewer premises. This request is processed by the multimedia receiver of the initiating viewer so as to generate a channel change request for submission to a service provider. In response to the channel share request, the service provider queries the recipient viewer to determine whether the recipient viewer accepts or rejects the offered multimedia channel. If the recipient viewer accepts the multimedia channel, the multimedia channel can be provided to the multimedia receiver of the recipient viewer either for storage for later playback or for immediate playback concurrent with the provision of the multimedia channel to the initiating viewer. Billing for costs associated with the shared multimedia channel is conducted based on billing feedback provided by the initiating viewer.

  • Patent number: 8565073
Abstract: A system and methodology that dynamically reroutes active communications sessions between a user equipment (UE) and a wireless network. In particular, the system can determine a current or impending fault condition and reroute a data path for network traffic to another service. Moreover, the system can identify a failed element in a wireless network and deny access and divert traffic until the element is restored. Further, the system can issue an alert to a user interface of the wireless network with information associated with a fault condition, a failed element, or a restored element.
