Patent number: 5477457Abstract: A cruise control system for keeping substantially constant distance to a preceding motorcar by a position servo unit which controls a fuel supply of a car, including a pacemaker which produces a difference between an imaginary pace value which is proportional to the car velocity at an instance when a driver judges that a stable constant distance to the preceding car is attained and an actual pace value, the difference being fed to the position servo unit which functions to reduce the difference to keep a constant set distance value to the car in front. The invention modifies the difference directly or indirectly when the driver judges that the velocity of his car deviates from the set distance value which has been set previously.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1994Date of Patent: December 19, 1995Inventor: Motohiro Okada

Patent number: 4399887Abstract: A method and apparatus for operating a seat-occupant restraining device in response to collision of a vehicle, comprising a front bumper on the vehicle adapted for receiving impact in the course of a collision and supported by a damper which opposes rearward displacement of the bumper. The damping is a function of the change of velocity of the vehicle during the collision and is used to displace a normally stationary part of the damper when the collision force exceeds a predetermined value. The displacement of the stationary part of the damper serves to close a switch to actuate the seat-occupant restraining device. The switch can be an acceleration detection switch in which case the stationary part is supported by the vehicle body by a deformable structure or the switch can be made as a deformable unit which undergoes deformation by the application of force thereto from the stationary part of the damper.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 1980Date of Patent: August 23, 1983Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Motohiro Okada

Patent number: 4289327Abstract: An entirely mechanical air bag device for cars wherein a frangible lid seals a container having gas under pressure therein. The frangible lid is supported by a pressing lid in contact with a link mechanism. During a crash, an impact detecting assembly releases the link mechanism which in turn releases the pressing lid which permits the frangible lid to be fractured by the high pressure gas to inflate the bag.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1979Date of Patent: September 15, 1981Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Motohiro Okada

Patent number: 4275901Abstract: An inflatable safety bag system for vehicles which comprises an electrical actuator device for detecting a vehicle collision, a mechanical actuator device for detecting a vehicle collision, and a valve opening device for a high-pressure gas container for supplying high-pressure gas to a safety bag at the time of a vehicle collision. The electrical and mechanical actuator devices are operatively connected to the valve opening device, and are actuatable independently of each other. The valve opening operation of the high-pressure gas container is effected in response to actuation of at least one of the electrical and mechanical actuator devices. When the electrical actuator device fails to operate, the mechanical actuator device enables the safety bag to be inflated, thereby ensuring positive and reliable operation of the safety bag system.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1979Date of Patent: June 30, 1981Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Motohiro Okada

Patent number: 4228840Abstract: A safety wheel with a rim having a tubeless tire mounted on the rim about its periphery. The rim is formed with flanges and an air chamber defined by the rim and the tubeless tire, has a bead stopper disposed within the said air chamber for gripping portions of the tubeless tire in cooperation with the flanges so to contain the bead portions against axial displacement relative to the rim. The bead stopper has a plurality of rigid circular bead stopper units flexibly connected in a radial direction to form an endless configuration with an inner peripheral surface fitted into a rim base on the rim. One of at least a pair of interconnected bead stopper units is formed at one end with a male connecting section having connecting pins, and anotjer end is formed with a female connecting section having hook-like locking concave portions. The locking concave portions and connecting pins of the female and male respectively being disengageably connected to each other.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1978Date of Patent: October 21, 1980Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Motohiro Okada

Patent number: 4205884Abstract: An anti-skid braking system for a vehicle comprising a brake unit actuated by pressure generated in a master cylinder by driver actuation and a hydraulic control circuit for hydraulically controlling the actuation of the brake unit to reduce the braking action of the brake unit when an excessive braking force is applied by the brake unit to the brakes of the vehicle wheels. The hydraulic control circuit includes an output section to which a safety valve is connected for releasing the oil pressure when the pressure in the hydraulic control circuit is supplied for a period exceeding a predetermined time.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1978Date of Patent: June 3, 1980Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Yoshitaka Miyakawa, Motohiro Okada, Makoto Sato

Patent number: 4204703Abstract: An apparatus for starting air bag devices in automobiles at the time of an accident or collision of an automobile, if the shock resulting from such collision is such as will injure the riders in the automobile. The apparatus includes a weight body adapted to detect the magnitude of the shock and to slide at the time of collision of the automobile. A detecting member is engaged with the weight body to operate with movement of the weight body, and a link mechanism is operated by the detecting member, such that the air bag device will be started mechanically.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 1978Date of Patent: May 27, 1980Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Motohiro Okada
