    Abstract: An illumination device includes a light source unit; and a light guide plate configured to guide light from the light source unit and to emit the light outward. The light guide plate includes an incidence surface which constitutes one end surface of the light guide plate and on which the light from the light source unit is incident, and emission surfaces which constitute opposite main surfaces of the light guide plate and from which the light incident on the incidence surface is emitted. The emission surfaces include dots formed by micro prism processing. The dots on one of the emission surfaces and the dots on the other emission surface are position-shifted in rotational symmetry with each other.

    Abstract: A light module 1 includes a planar light emitting device 2, a wiring board 3, and an optical sheet 4. The wiring board 3 has a hole 8 for accommodating the planar light emitting device 2. The optical sheet 4 holds the planar light emitting device 2 and the wiring board 3 such that the planar light emitting device 2 accommodated in the hole 8 of the wiring board 3 and the wiring board 3 are flush with each other on the light emitting surface side of the light module 1. The optical sheet 4 holds the planar light emitting device 2 and the wiring board 3, and prevents dust and moisture from entering the inside the light module 1. This eliminates the necessity for the light module 1 to include a casing, packing, and the like. Therefore, the thickness of the module can be reduced.

    Abstract: An electrodeless discharge lamp includes a discharge gas sealed in a lamp tube. The discharge gas includes a halide of rare earth metal. An auxiliary electrode is disposed on or adjacent to an outer periphery wall of the lamp tube such that the auxiliary electrode is capacitively coupled to an interior space of the lamp tube. A main induction coil is wound around the lamp tube and receives power from a first high frequency power source. The auxiliary electrode receives power from a second high frequency power source. In operation, the electrodeless discharge lamp attains smooth lighting upon starting or restarting.
