  • Patent number: 5458699
Abstract: A steel wire for making a high strength steel wire product which contains 0.6-1.1% C, 0.2-0.6% Si, 0.3-0.8% Mn, and impurities of max 0.010% P, max 0.010% S, max 0.003% O(oxygen), and max 0.002% N, and has a structure in which the maximum pearlite block size is 4.0 .mu.m, the maximum separation distance in pearlite lamellars is 0.1 .mu.m, and the maximum content of free ferrite is 1% by volume. The steel wire can be manufactured in the process as follows;1 heating a steel wire rod having above-mentioned chemical composition to the austenite range above Ac.sub.3 point or A.sub.cm point,2 initiating plastic deformation to not less than 20% total reduction in cross-sectional area in the temperature range 850.degree. C. -750.degree. C.,3 finishing plastic deformation in the range below Ae.sub.1 point and above 650.degree. C., and4 continuously cooling to a range lower than 650.degree. C. and higher than 550.degree. C., and thus transforming into pearlite phase.

  • Patent number: 4545227
Abstract: Herein disclosed are dry type continuous wire drawing process and machine which can enhance the productivity by conducting in-line a wire drawing operation including the steps of flaw detection and wire repair. The wire to be drawn is mechanically descaled and is then coated with a lubricant. The wire thus coated is drawn through a drawing die. At the coating step, the wire is first coated with lime powder and then with metallic soap. Thus, the wire is drawn under dry and continuous conditions. After the drawing operation, a flaw in surface of the wire is detected. The surface flaw is located from the running speed or distance of the wire and the detecting instant. The surface flaw located is removed. The resultant wire is wound up. The surface flaw which cannot be removed is marked. An internal defect in the drawn wire is also detected with ultrasonic waves. The internally detected portion is also marked. All of the steps thus far recited and others are conducted in-line.

  • Patent number: 4154080
Abstract: There is disclosed an apparatus for supporting roll chocks of a work roll in a roll stand housing. This apparatus includes a thrust transmitting head member between the roll chock and a rolling force effecting mechanism such as a screw of a screw down mechanism. The head member has a spherical surface at one end in contact with a mating spherical surface formed at one end of the screw. These spherical surfaces have different radii to make point contact therebetween and to enable rolling contact movement between the head member and the screw in the rocking motion of the roll chock caused by a force in a workpiece generated during a rolling operation, to thereby provide more accurate measurement of tension in the workpiece being rolled by employing force sensing devices acting on the roll chocks. The head member also has inclined surfaces at the other end thereof in registration with mating inclined surfaces formed at one side of the roll chock.

  • Patent number: 4116028
Abstract: A continuous rolling mill including roll stands arranged in series, each of which has a pair of work rolls and roll chocks for supporting them respectively. One of the roll chocks is mounted on the frame of the roll stand to be movable in a direction parallel to the direction of path of the workpiece. A load sensing rod is provided to contact at its one end with the roll chock and to be thrusted through the roll chock by tensile or compression force occurring when the workpiece is being captured by the pair of rolls. The load sensing rod is hydraulically supported under a predetermined pressure so that the rod is shifted under an excessive load. The movement of the sensing rod is transduced to an electric signal representing the force for control of the mill.
