  • Patent number: 6828467
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a process for producing a fluorinated methyl-benzyl alcohol, which process is industrially applicable. A process for producing a fluorinated methyl-benzyl alcohol according to the present invention includes hydrogenolysis of one hydroxyl group in fluorinated benzene dimethanol. The hydrogenolysis can be carried out in a solvent in the presence of a catalyst. The catalyst can include at least one metal selected from cobalt, iron, copper, nickel, platinum, palladium, and rhenium, and the hydrogenolysis can be carried out using hydrogen.

  • Patent number: 6245920
Abstract: Noble metal, particularly ruthenium, Raney catalysts which can hydrogenate (1) aromaticity-exhibiting ring portions of organic compounds, (2) carboxylic acids and their ester portions (carbonyl ester groups), (3) ring portions and carboxylic acid or their ester groups in compounds having such ring portions and carboxylic acid or their ester portions, and (4) ring portions and nitrile groups of aromatic nitrile compounds and methods for the preparation of corresponding hydrogenated compounds. The methods allow preparation of hydrogenated compounds having hydrogenated aromatic ring portions, hydrogenated carbonyl ester groups, hydrogenated aromatic ring and carbonyl ester groups, or hydrogenated aromatic rings and nitrile groups under milder hydrogen pressure and temperature conditions than the conventional catalysts.

  • Patent number: 6114277
Abstract: The object of the invention is to provide a process for preparing a cyano group-containing methylamine, comprising hydrogenating only one of the two nitrile groups of a aromatic dinitrile, wherein the aromatic dinitrile is reacted a a high conversion ratio using a small amount of a catalyst under the conditions of a low temperature and a low pressure to prepare a cyano group-containing aromatic methylamine in a high yield.

  • Patent number: 6018048
Abstract: Noble metal, particularly ruthenium, Raney catalysts having the property of catalyzing the hydrogenation of (1) aromaticity-exhibiting ring portions of organic compounds, (2) carboxylic acids and their ester portions (carbonyl ester groups), (3) ring portions and carboxylic acid or their ester groups in compounds having such ring portions and carboxylic acid or their ester portions, and (4) ring portions and nitrile groups of aromatic nitrile compounds and methods for the preparation of corresponding hydrogenated compounds. • Patent number: 5777158
Abstract: The novel non-hygroscopic crystals of p-aminomethylbenzoic acid can be obtained by heating hygroscopic crystals of p-aminomethylbenzoic acid with keeping the hygroscopic crystals in contact with moisture to transit the hygroscopic crystals to non-hygroscopic crystals. The non-hygroscopic crystals of p-aminomethylbenzoic acid can be particularly advantageously handled in the atmosphere as compared with the conventional hygroscopic crystals. Especially when the p-aminomethylbenzoic acid is used for the non-aqueous reaction, the crystals of the invention are exceptionally advantageous from the viewpoints of removal of moisture and humidity control.
