  • Patent number: 9857347
Abstract: An automated dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction method of detecting and quantifying N-nitrosamines in an aqueous sample. The method includes (a) extracting an aqueous solution including the N-nitrosamines by mixing an extraction solvent and a dispersive solvent with the aqueous solution, such that the N-nitrosamines, or a portion thereof, re-distribute from the aqueous solution to the extraction solvent, (b) permitting the resulting mixture in (a) to form a two-phase mixture containing an aqueous phase containing the aqueous solution with reduced amounts of the N-nitrosamines and an organic phase including the extraction solvent with the N-nitrosamines extracted from the aqueous solution, (c) injecting the organic phase, or a portion thereof, into an injection port of a gas chromatograph coupled with at least one mass spectrometer, and (d) analyzing the N-nitrosamines by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry to detect and quantify the concentration of the N-nitrosamines in the aqueous solution.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: January 2, 2018
Assignee: King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals

  • Publication number: 20150377845
Abstract: A fully automated flow assisted-solid-phase microextraction (FA-SPME) is developed for the determination of chloroethers in aqueous samples. A CTC CombiPAL autosampler coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) is used to automate the extraction process. In this method, the SPME fiber is exposed to a sample in direct immersion. After exposure, the fiber is desorbed at the injection port of GC-MS.

Applicants: KING FAHD UNIVERSITY OF PETROLEUM AND MINERALS, King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology
Inventors: Basheer CHANBASHA, Mousa Yaser AMAYREH
  • Patent number: 9212979
Abstract: An automated headspace solid-phase microextraction coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry for the determination of four N-nitrosamines in groundwater samples is developed. Response surface methodology technique was employed to investigate the optimized extraction conditions of headspace solid-phase microextraction using CombiPAL autosampler. The method was applied to determine the N-nitrosamine concentrations in groundwater samples.
