  • Patent number: 10796254
Abstract: Embodiments provide systems and methods for operating a power system to deliver energy. Embodiments include obtaining initial resource schedules for network analysis using a set of input and data validation functions; performing a network analysis with a full AC power flow in the energy system; executing a security constraint unit commitment function using transmission constraints output from the network analysis; determining an optimized outage schedule using the output of the security constraint unit commitment function; distributing the optimized outage schedule to a generation control and load management system; and directing operation of generator resources and managing loads to deliver energy to customers based on the optimized outage schedule. Numerous other aspects are provided.

  • Patent number: 10268973
Abstract: Embodiments provide stakeholder market simulator systems and methods for verifying optimal utilization of stakeholder resources in an energy delivery system. Embodiments include obtaining initial resource schedules and prices for a stakeholder's resources using a set of input data regarding the stakeholder's resources; creating a model incorporating constraints describing the stakeholder's resources based on the input data; executing an optimization of an objective function for the stakeholder's resources subject to the determined constraints to determine optimal prices and schedules for the stakeholder's resources; and verifying the optimization by comparing the determined optimal prices and schedules for the stakeholder's resources against published prices and schedules from an independent system operator. Numerous other aspects are provided.

  • Publication number: 20060195693
Abstract: Specters may be used to provide software configurations for specter client computer systems, which may be any type of computer system (client, server, stand-alone, etc.). A specter client computer system may contain sufficient functionality to obtain and launch a specter, which may be stored on a specter rendering system.

  • Patent number: 6775597
Abstract: A Security-Constrained Optimal Power Flow (SCOPF) process employing a quadratic programming (QP) primal-dual interior point (IP) solution method. The IP method efficiently solves practical SCOPF problems involving large numbers of contingencies and controls in preventive and preventive/corrective operating modes. An EMS system is described incorporating the inventive SCOPF process. The SCOPF process can be used in a variety of additional arrangements including a locational marginal pricing scheme and a power transmission rights auction system. An infeasibility detection method is also described.

  • Publication number: 20030005090
Abstract: An integrated internetworking architecture for automating the configuration and control of networks that operate according to standard layered protocols. The described architecture includes two major blocks: (1) a network; and (2) a controller coupled to the network that automatically configures the network by coordinating different resources to perform an action, such as providing an e-commerce shopping service. The controller may operate at a layer above the standard network protocols so as to abstract away the visible complexity of the network, thus allowing a human user to control, configure and operate the network as if it were a single host (e.g., computer) via a simple user interface. A tool set may also be provided to simulate and evaluate the interaction of the various networked components using the properties and provisioning information maintained within the controller.
