  • Patent number: 10868610
Abstract: A communications device including a transmitter and a receiver configured to transmit and receive signals representing data to and from an infrastructure equipment of a mobile communications network via a first wireless access interface. The communications device transmits signals via a second wireless access interface to a communications apparatus operating as a relay node, and determines an additional delay caused by the transmission of the signals to the communications apparatus acting as the relay node via the second wireless access interface compared with a time taken which would have been taken to transmit the signals to the infrastructure equipment as if transmitted via the first wireless access interface, and transmits an indication from which the infrastructure equipment can derive the determined additional delay for adjusting the transmission or reception of the synchronized response.

  • Patent number: 10858292
Abstract: Conventional sintering processes convert a portion of cBN to hBN which is softer than cBN which negatively affects functional properties of an alumina composite. The invention is directed to method for making an alumina-cubic boron nitride (Al2O3-cBN) composite that contains substantially no hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) by non-conventional spark plasma sintering of cBN with nano-sized alumina particles. The invention is also directed to Al2O3-cBN/Ni composites, which contain substantially no hBN, and which exhibit superior physical and mechanical properties compared to alumina composites containing higher amounts of hBN.

  • Publication number: 20200381186
Abstract: Platinum films can be obtained by AACVD using a class of Pt-dialkyldithiocarbamates complexes, of the formula Pt(S2CNR2), wherein R is independently alkyl, such as isobutyl, aryl, or alkaryl, such as benzyl, particularly as single source precursors. The catalytic performance of the resulting Pt-films allows their use as counter electrodes in dye sensitized solar cells, for example. The efficiency of the AACVD-produced electrodes can be better than a conventionally used Pt-counter electrodes made by the doctor blade's method. The Pt(S2CNR2)-derived films have well connected and defect free surface topography and better catalytic performance, likely due to their high conductivity and reflectivity. A simple and low cost method employing such dithiocarbamate precursors can generate Pt-films and electrodes of broad applicability.

  • Publication number: 20200370189
Abstract: Catalytic materials useful, e.g., in water oxidation performing at low overpotential and/or stable for applications such as solar-to-fuel conversion systems may include nanoscale, nanoporous Pd-containing materials. Thin-film Pd electrocatalysts may be obtained via Aerosol-Assisted Chemical Vapor Deposition (AACVD) on conducting surfaces. XRD and XPS analyses show a phase pure crystalline metallic Pd deposit. Surface morphology study reveals a nanoparticulate highly porous nanostructure. Under electrochemical conditions, such Pd electrocatalysts may conduct water oxidation at onset potentials starting around 1.43 V against a reversible hydrogen electrode (? of 200 mV, Tafel slope of 40 mV/dec), and/or may achieve around 100 mA/cm2 current density at 1.63 V against a reversible hydrogen electrode, and may exhibits long-term stability in oxygen evolution. Method of making such electrocatalysts and their uses are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20200270757
Abstract: A synthetic methodology for robust, nanostructured films of cobalt oxide over metal evaporated gold or similar material layer of, e.g., 50 nm, directly onto glass or other substrates via aerosol assisted chemical vapor deposition (AACVD). This approach allows film growth rates in the range of, e.g., 0.8 nm/s, using a commercially available precursor, which is ˜10-fold the rate of electrochemical synthetic routes. Thus, 250 nm thick cobalt oxide films may be generated in only 5 minutes of deposition time. The water oxidation reaction for such films may start at ˜0.6 V vs Ag/AgCl with current density of 10 mA/cm2 and is achieved at ˜0.75 V corresponding to an overpotential of 484 mV. This current density is further increased to 60 mA/cm2 at ˜1.5 V (vs Ag/AgCl). Electrochemically active surface area (ECSA) calculations indicate that the synergy between a Au-film, acting as electron sink, and the cobalt oxide film(s), acting as catalytic layer(s), are more pronounced than the surface area effects.
