  • Patent number: 9277451
Abstract: In systems and methods for reducing network traffic generated by a plurality of wireless devices operating over a communication network, an indication is received at an access node when a plurality of wireless devices assigned to a subscriber operate simultaneously as active wireless devices over a communication network. A priority list of the active wireless devices arranged according to the highest priority based on operating parameters of the active wireless devices is compiled. One of the active wireless devices is selected as a wireless host device based on the active wireless devices based upon the compiled priority list. Channel state data received from the active wireless devices at the access node is correlated to determine whether the active wireless devices and the wireless host device are in close proximity with each other. A wireless connection is established between the wireless host device and the active wireless devices, that are found to be in close proximity of wireless host device.

  • Patent number: 9265060
Abstract: A system and method of scheduling communication in a wireless communication network are provided. An access node can determine a scheduling scheme based on an indication of data addressed to wireless devices. The scheduling scheme can comprise a first subframe and a second subframe comprising a first and second resource block. The scheduling scheme can be communicated. Data addressed to the wireless devices in communication with a first access node can be transmitted during the first subframe and the first resource block of the second subframe. A second access node can be instructed to assign data addressed to wireless devices that meet a signal condition threshold to be transmitted during the second resource block of the second subframe and to assign data addressed to wireless devices that do not meet the signal condition threshold to be transmitted during the first subframe and the first resource block of the second subframe.

  • Patent number: 9246782
Abstract: In systems and methods of reducing wireless communication signaling overhead, it is determined that communication resource request traffic from a plurality of wireless devices in communication with an access node to communicate with a communication network meets a first threshold. One of the plurality of wireless devices is selected to operate as a router wireless device based on a power storage level and an assigned modulation and coding scheme of each of the plurality of wireless devices. At least one of the unselected wireless devices is instructed to communicate with the communication network via the selected router wireless device.

  • Patent number: 9237461
Abstract: In systems and methods of selecting access nodes for broadcast, signal strength metrics are received from a plurality of wireless devices, wherein the signal strength metrics are based on signals received by the plurality of wireless devices from a plurality of access nodes. A first signal strength criteria is determined for each of the wireless devices based on the received signal strength metrics, and wireless devices for which the first signal strength criteria meets a threshold are selected from among the plurality of wireless devices. A second signal strength criteria is determined for each of the plurality of access nodes. A minimum number of the access nodes is selected wherein the second signal strength criteria meets the threshold for each of the selected wireless devices, and a multicast transmission is transmitted from the selected access nodes to the selected wireless devices.

  • Publication number: 20150351109
Abstract: In systems and methods of managing frequency band selection for a wireless device, a first signal level of a first frequency band and a second signal level of a second frequency band received at a wireless device are monitored, wherein the first frequency band comprises a lower frequency band than the second frequency band. A first signal level difference is determined between the first signal level and the second signal level, and the wireless device is instructed to communicate with the access node over the second frequency band when the first signal level difference meets a first signal level difference criteria based on a decrease of the second signal level.

  • Patent number: 9198105
Abstract: A throughput of information received from an access node at an application running on a wireless device is determined, and a modulation and coding scheme assigned to the wireless device to communicate with the access node is identified. Based on the throughput and the modulation and coding scheme, a number of free physical resource blocks per frame of the access node is estimated, to enable a determination of access node capacity.

  • Patent number: 9107200
Abstract: A base station of a radio access network (RAN) and a multiband mobile station are configured for wireless communication in a plurality of frequency bands. The RAN selects a configuration of uplink and downlink frequencies for a radio connection between the base station and multiband mobile station. The uplink and downlink frequencies in the selected configuration are in different frequency bands. The RAN may select a frequency band for the uplink frequency based, at least in part, on a distance between the multiband mobile station and the base station. That RAN may select a frequency band for the downlink frequency based, at least in part, on respective downlink loads at the base station for the first, second, and third frequency bands.

  • Patent number: 9014040
Abstract: A database is maintained that maps source cell regions to channel condition on the neighbor cell(s) coverage. The database also tracks whether the neighbor cell has better, weaker, or similar signal strength than the source cell. The channel condition and bitrate requirement of each wireless device being served by the source cell are also tracked. Once a particular neighbor cell has been selected for traffic offload (i.e., handover of one or more wireless devices), the source cell uses the database to select which wireless devices should send measurement reports. Those wireless devices with channel conditions that are mapped in the database to the target cell's coverage are designated for possible selection. Among these wireless devices, either the wireless devices with the highest or lowest bitrate requirements are selected to provide measurement reports for the target cell.

The firewalls receive access control lists from the network management system to police communications that traverse the trusted network and an untrusted network. The routers receive access control lists from the network management system to police communications that traverse the router within the trusted network. The access control lists for the routers and firewalls are transmitted over a network interface to the trusted network and are transmitted separately from the access control lists for the network clients.

  • Patent number: 8909240
Abstract: In systems and methods for managing call admission, a channel request comprising a first service level priority is received from a first wireless device at an access node. Channels of the access node associated with a second service level priority greater than or equal to the first service level priority are selected. A loading of the selected channels is determined, and the loading of the selected channels is compared to a loading criteria. When the determined loading meets the loading criteria, a preemption attempt is performed of a channel associated with a third service level priority less than the first service level priority.

  • Patent number: 7407416
Abstract: A multi-stage, multi-pole connector provides improved connectivity with electronic devices having mating receptacles of differing form factors. In one aspect, the connector includes a hollow base plug portion, a hollow tip plug portion, and a series of conductive lines extending within the base plug portion and the tip plug portion. Both the base plug portion and the tip plug portion share the same longitudinal axis and are each formed with one or more discrete conductive contacts electrically isolated from one another. The tip plug portion extends axially from the base plug portion and has a smaller outside diameter along the length of the tip plug portion than the average outside diameter along the length of the base plug portion. This configuration causes the connector to step down in form factor to a smaller cross-sectional size moving from the base plug portion to the tip plug portion.
