  • Publication number: 20090117896
Abstract: A user equipment is operated in a mobile communications system, wherein a network part of the mobile communications system is capable of operating in a synchronized mode or in an asynchronous mode. Operation includes recording timing information about a periodically occurring signal received from a neighboring cell. The recorded timing information is used in a blind detection process that ascertains whether the network part of the mobile communications system is operating in the synchronized mode or in the asynchronous mode by detecting at least whether the periodically occurring signal received from the neighboring cell occurred within a predetermined window of time of a corresponding periodically occurring signal received from a serving cell. The detected operating mode of the network part of the mobile communications system is used for controlling subsequent operation of the user equipment.

  • Publication number: 20090111400
Abstract: The present invention relates to cellular mobile radio systems, and more especially it relates to multi-cell interference-limited environments, such as Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access, OFDMA, and Code Division Multiple Access, CDMA, cellular mobile radio systems. Particularly, it relates to transmission power allocation in such systems. Method and systems where transmission power is based on parameters directly affecting perceived user performance parameters are disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20090086682
Abstract: Out-of-sync and in-sync detections and downlink power control by UTRAN user equipment are improved in Continuous Packet Connectivity mode featuring discontinuous UL DPCCH transmission by requiring all F-DPCH transmissions from a base station to the user equipment to be valid during a UL DTX gated period. Additionally, the user equipment receives and considers all F-DPCH transmissions during the UL DTX gated period, for power control, out-of-sync and in-sync detections. If the user equipment detects an out-of-sync condition, it may immediately transmit a scheduling request to notify the network, temporarily or permanently annulling the discontinuous UL DPCCH transmission.

  • Publication number: 20090005058
Abstract: A mechanism to share channels between cells dynamically and without simultaneous allocation of the same channel by more than one access point achieved by a method for a dynamic inter-cell channel sharing for a first access point in a radio access network, the first access point being associated with a first cell of a number of cells within the radio access network, the first access point being adapted to connecting at least one first user equipment being situated in the first cell, to a network infrastructure, comprising the steps of: receiving from the at least one first user equipment a report indicating whether a specific channel is used in a second adjacent cell of said number of cells, the report being based on a first information sent from at least one second access point, the information indicating whether a specific channel is used in the second adjacent cell.

  • Publication number: 20080233948
Abstract: A method for controlling uplink transmissions from a user device to an access point in a wireless telecommunications system is described. Each access point defines a communications cell, and the method comprises monitoring interference in an uplink channel at an access point, performing interference control actions at the access point when monitored interference exceeds a first predetermined level, monitoring occurrences of such control actions at the access point, and if a number of such occurrences exceeds a predetermined level, performing interference control actions with reference to a plurality of cells at a central controller of the telecommunications system, which central controller is operable to control a plurality of access points.

  • Publication number: 20070259681
Abstract: According to methods and apparatus taught herein, user equipments (UEs) in a wireless communication network are scheduled based on determining received signal power densities for a plurality of UEs to be scheduled, allocating UEs to scheduling intervals based on a sorting of their received signal power densities, and assigning UEs in the same scheduling interval to mirror frequency bands within an available frequency spectrum according to the sorting. For example, UEs to be scheduled are assigned to a given scheduling interval in rank order of their received signal power densities until the scheduling interval is fully allocated. Remaining UEs are assigned in rank order to one or more other scheduling intervals, and the process may be repeated or otherwise carried out on an ongoing basis. Such an allocation scheme tends to minimize both adjacent frequency and mirror frequency interferences between UEs scheduled in the same interval.
