  • Publication number: 20140154524
Abstract: Certain example embodiments relate to Ni-inclusive ternary alloy being provided as a barrier layer for protecting an IR reflecting layer comprising silver or the like. The provision of a barrier layer comprising nickel, chromium, and/or molybdenum and/or oxides thereof may improve corrosion resistance, as well as chemical and mechanical durability. In certain examples, more than one barrier layer may be used on at least one side of the layer comprising silver. In still further examples, a NixCryMoz-based layer may be used as the functional layer, rather than or in addition to as a barrier layer, in a coating.

  • Publication number: 20140017510
Abstract: Certain example embodiments relate to a coated article including at least one infrared (IR) reflecting layer of a material such as silver or the like in a low-E coating, and methods of making the same. In certain cases, at least one layer of the coating is of or includes nickel and/or titanium (e.g., NixTiyOz). The provision of a layer including nickel titanium and/or an oxide thereof may permit a layer to be used that has good adhesion to the IR reflecting layer, and reduced absorption of visible light (resulting in a coated article with a higher visible transmission). When a layer including nickel titanium oxide is provided directly over and/or under the IR reflecting layer (e.g., as a barrier layer), this may result in improved chemical and mechanical durability. Thus, visible transmission may be improved if desired, without compromising durability; or, durability may simply be increased.

  • Publication number: 20130320241
Abstract: A coated article includes a low-emissivity (low-E) coating supported by a substrate (e.g., glass substrate) for use in a window, where the low-E coating is exposed to ultraviolet (UV) radiation in order to improve the coating's and thus the coated article's electrical, optical and/or thermal blocking properties. Exposing the low-E coating to UV radiation, e.g., emitted from a UV lamp(s) and/or UV laser(s), allows for selective heating of a contact/seed layer which transfers energy to the adjacent IR reflecting layer.

  • Publication number: 20130230698
Abstract: A coated article is provided which may be heat treated (e.g., thermally tempered) and/or heat bent in certain example instances. In certain example embodiments, a zinc stannate based layer is provided between a tin oxide based layer and a silicon nitride based layer, and this has been found to significantly reduce undesirable mottling damage upon heat treatment/bending. This results in significantly improved bendability of the coated article in applications such as vehicle windshields and the like.

  • Publication number: 20130216861
Abstract: A coated article is provided so as to include a low-E (low emissivity) coating having an infrared (IR) reflecting layer sandwiched between at least a pair of dielectric layers. The IR reflecting layer may be of or include a material such as silver (Ag), and is provided between a pair of contact layers. The low-E coating includes an overcoat having a substantially metallic layer (e.g., NbZr or Zr) which has been found to improve the durability of the coating without significantly sacrificing desired optical characteristics. Such coated articles may be used in the context of windows.

  • Publication number: 20130142399
Abstract: Face recognition using multilayered discriminant analysis includes systems and methods applying an initial linear discriminate analysis to a database of face images in a more-or less conventional manner. Initial fuzzy logic then is applied to the results of the initial linear discriminate analysis to produce a subset of the database of face images. Thereafter, a subsequent linear discriminate analysis is applied to the subset of the database of face images and subsequent fuzzy logic is applied to the results of the subsequent linear discriminate analysis to produce a further subset of the subset of the database of face images. The application of the subsequent linear discriminate analysis and application of the subsequent fuzzy logic may be repeated until the further subset contains only one, or zero, face images.
