  • Publication number: 20080151434
Abstract: A transducing system includes a support assembly for supporting a transducer and a lift tab extending from the support assembly. The lift tab has a surface configured to lift the support assembly carrying the transducer up a load/unload ramp. The surface of the lift tab has a radius of curvature of less than 0.013 inches.

  • Publication number: 20070091507
Abstract: A disc drive utilizes ramp load unload technology. A ramp component of the disc drive includes a recess that reduces the contact surface area of the ramp component that supports an actuator assembly to unload a slider of the disc drive. The actuator assembly may include a lift tab that interacts with the ramp component to hold the slider off a media disc when the slider is unloaded.

  • Patent number: 6937427
Abstract: An apparatus and method of measuring a back electromotive force (BEMF) voltage of a disc drive voice coil motor (VCM) is provided in which a temperature of the VCM is obtained. The BEMF voltage of the VCM is computed as a function of the temperature of the VCM.

  • Patent number: 6822821
Abstract: A head crash in a hard disc drive is predicted by periodically measuring a head-disc contact energy level on an actuator arm supporting the head and identifying a predetermined change in the energy level between at least two energy level measurements. The head-disc contact energy level is measured by a positioning microactuator on the actuator arm, and comparing that energy level to a threshold established during an earlier or selected contact start-stop cycle. A circuit is coupled to the microactuator and is periodically operable to identify a magnitude of contact energy. An indicator is coupled to the circuit and responsive to the representations to indicate presence of symptoms of an impending crash.
