  • Patent number: 7969386
Abstract: A plasma display apparatus and a method of driving the plasma display apparatus are provided. The plasma display apparatus includes a plasma display panel including a first electrode and a second electrode, a first electrode driver, and a second electrode driver. The first electrode driver supplies a first falling signal of a voltage magnitude, that is more than a voltage magnitude of a scan signal supplied during an address period, to the first electrode before the supply of a rising signal with a gradually rising voltage in at least one subfield of several subfields of a frame. The second electrode driver supplies a second signal having a polarity opposite a polarity of the first falling signal to the second electrode during the supply of the first falling signal.

  • Patent number: 7907103
Abstract: A plasma display apparatus and a driving method of a plasma display panel are provided. This may include a plasma display panel having a plurality of scan electrodes and sustain electrodes, and a plurality of address electrodes formed to intersect with the plurality of scan electrodes and sustain electrodes. A driving unit/circuit may drive the scan electrodes, the sustain electrodes, and the address electrodes to allow a voltage difference between the scan electrode and the sustain electrode or a voltage difference between the scan electrode and the address electrode during an address period at one or more subfields of a frame to be larger than a voltage difference between the scan electrode and the sustain electrode or a voltage difference between the scan electrode and the address electrode during the address period at other subfields.

  • Publication number: 20100289789
Abstract: A plasma display device is provided. The plasma display device includes a plasma display panel (PDP) including an upper substrate, on which first and second electrodes are formed, and a lower substrate, on which a third electrode is formed; and a driving unit applying a sustain signal to the first and second electrodes, wherein a negative voltage signal and a positive voltage signal are applied to the first and second electrodes, respectively, after a number of sustain discharges caused by the sustain signal. Therefore, it is possible to efficiently accumulate space charges on each electrode and thus to address the problems associated with a shortage of wall charges such as a misdischarge and a dark discharge.

  • Patent number: 7821477
Abstract: The present invention relates to a plasma display apparatus and a driving method thereof in which an erroneous discharge, a misdischarge and an abnormal discharge are prevented, a darkroom contrast is increased, an operation margin is widen, and an influence of a lower substrate wall charge is reduced in a sustain discharge. The plasma display apparatus and its driving method is characterized in that when the plasma display panel has a second temperature higher than a first temperature, a period between the last sustain pulse generated during a sustain period of (n?1)th sub-field (ā€œnā€ is a positive integer) and an initialization signal generated during a reset period of nth sub-field is more lengthened than when it has the first temperature. The plasma display apparatus and its driving method is characterized in that a pre sustain pulse (PRESUSP) rising from a sustain bias voltage (Vzb) is applied to the second electrode in the sustain period.

  • Patent number: 7474278
Abstract: A plasma display apparatus is provided. The plasma display apparatus comprises an energy recovery unit and a sustain driver for applying a voltage recovered from the energy recovery unit to sustain electrodes as a bias voltage in an address period. The voltage recovered to a source capacitor is applied as the bias voltage in the address period so that it is possible to apply the bias voltage that varies in accordance with the sustain voltage of a plasma display panel without an additional external power source. As a result, it is possible to reduce the manufacturing expenses of the plasma display apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20080042935
Abstract: A plasma display apparatus and a method of driving the same are disclosed. The plasma display apparatus includes a plasma display panel including a first electrode and a second electrode, and a driver. The driver supplies a rising signal and a falling signal to the first electrode during a reset period, and supplies a positive polarity signal to the second electrode during the reset period. Further, the driver supplies a sustain bias signal to the second electrode after the passage of a predetermined duration of time from an end time point of the supplying of the positive polarity signal.

  • Publication number: 20080018564
Abstract: A plasma display apparatus and a method of driving the same are disclosed. The plasma display apparatus includes a plasma display panel including a first electrode and a second electrode, and a driver. The driver supplies a first sustain signal of a first polarity to the first electrode during a signal supply period. The driver supplies a second sustain signal of a second polarity to the second electrode during at least a portion of the signal supply period. A magnitude of a rising slope and a magnitude of a falling slope of the second sustain signal are less than a magnitude of a rising slope and a magnitude of a falling slope of the first sustain signal, respectively.
