  • Patent number: 9590880
Abstract: Technologies are generally described for collecting, analyzing and reporting telemetry data. A telemetry engine is built into a client application installed on a client device, and the telemetry engine is configured to collect and analyze application data at the client device and report the analyzed data to a service provider associated with the application. The telemetry application includes a specialized set of components, such as a telemetry transport component configured to communicate with the service provider, a data collection module configured to retrieve data from the application, and a rule manager and analyzer configured to analyze collected data according to a set of data collection rules provided by the service provider. The telemetry engine enables collection and analysis of telemetry data from multiple distributed client devices. The client devices dynamically change over time to ensure that current and important information is reported to the service provider.

  • Publication number: 20080244071
Abstract: Policy definition using a plurality of configuration items is described. In one or more implementations, a plurality of policies is defined, each having a different combination of a plurality of configuration items. The policies are then implemented such that each of the clients is provided a respective amount of access to one or more resources based on compliance with applicable policies.

  • Publication number: 20070100850
Abstract: A method is provided for handling failures in a computer system including a compliance checking system in a computer network. In response to a client computer failing to obtain a compliance check, a determination is made as to a category of an error that at least partially caused the failure in obtaining the compliance check. As a result, the method includes performing an action to at least partially based on the determined category of the error. In some instances, the action can include allowing the client computer to connect to the network. Another method includes receiving a definition of a configurable mitigation rule, where the configurable mitigation rule describes an action to perform at least partially based on the category of an error. Yet another method includes receiving a selection of a security level of operation of the compliance checking system.

  • Patent number: 7181490
Abstract: A method of automatically subscribing a network device to a plurality of events applicable to a logical group, of which the network device is a member, is disclosed. The method involves first creating and storing a mapping that associates a plurality of network devices with a logical group and that associates the logical group with one or more events that can pass over an event bus to which the network device is logically coupled. At runtime, a device identifier of one of the network devices in the logical group is received, an event identifier of an event that is among the one or more events that are in the second mapping is received. Based on the mapping, the method causes the network device to receive all events that are associated in the mapping with the logical group that includes the network device.

  • Publication number: 20070028160
Abstract: The present application is directed to a re-use wizard. Embodiments of the re-use wizard are directed at recording data input during a wizard session into a stored “template” which may be used to re-use data when the wizard is subsequently executed. More specifically, in one aspect the re-use wizard performs a method that leverages data input during a previous wizard session. In this regard, when a relevant command is identified, the method allows the user to choose among one or more “templates” that may be used to satisfy the command. If the user selects an available template, the method causes data stored in the template to be applied to an application object that is the target of the command. As a result, the user does not need to repetitively enter data when tasks handled by the re-use wizard are scheduled to be performed.
