The catalyst is a simple KMgPO4 catalyst, a supported KMgPO4 catalyst, or a KMgPO4-sintered catalyst. The supported KMgPO4 catalyst is prepared by impregnating a carrier with an aqueous solution of a KMgPO4 precursor and the KMgPO4-sintered catalyst is prepared by mixing a KMgPO4 powder or a KMgPO4 precursor powder with metal oxide followed by sintering. Provided is also a method for producing light olefins such as ethylene and propylene by steam cracking in the presence of the catalyst. When the catalyst comprising KMgSO4 as a catalytic component is used in olefin production, the yield of olefins is increased and the amount of cokes deposited on the catalyst is reduced.

The invention provides a hydrocarbon cracking catalyst in which a metal or a metal oxide is deposited only on the surface of zeolite and a method for preparing the hydrocarbon cracking catalyst comprising the steps of: a) dissolving a metal-hydrocarbon complex or an organometal larger than the pore size of a zeolite carrier; b) depositing the resultant solution on the zeolite surface; and c) drying and calcining the resultant zeolite catalyst. The hydrocarbon cracking catalyst of the invention can greatly improve production yield of olefins and aromatic compounds such as BTX.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a hydrocarbon cracking catalyst in which zeolite is fixed in the pores of metal oxide and a method for preparing the same. The method of the invention comprises the steps of a) vacuumi zing a container including metal oxide; b) adding zeolite powder in water and stirring it to obtain a slurry solution; c) spraying the slurry solution of step (b) into the vacuous container to penetrate it into the pores of the metal oxide support; and d) drying the catalyst prepared, in step (c) and calcining it to fix zeolite powder in the metal oxide support. The hydrocarbon cracking catalyst of the present invention can improve production yield of such olefins as ethylene and propylene and such aromatic compounds as BTX, reduce pressure drop inside the reactor without forming the zeolite catalyst and has superior rigidity.
