  • Patent number: 7099332
Abstract: Method (130) for optimizing emergency call service in a Virtual Local Area Network including at least one Voice over Internet Protocol device. A range of port numbers is reserved for use during emergencies (134). Next, a VoIP device transmits an emergency call within the VLAN using a port in the specified range (136). Extra resources are reserved for handling the calls using ports within the specified range (138).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 29, 2000
Date of Patent: August 29, 2006
    Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)
    Inventor: Mun Keung Leung
  • Patent number: 6781955
Abstract: A method for optimizing call service in a VLAN including at least one Voice over Internet Protocol device involves determining the current traffic levels of the VLAN, then adjusting the priority handling of data packets in the VLAN in relationship to current traffic levels so that voice packets receive an optimum number of network resources. Default priorities are used when level of traffic is in a normal range. During times when network traffic is below the normal range, signaling data packets may be increased in priority and when network level of traffic is above the normal range, the priority of all data packets except for voice data packets will be decreased.

Abstract: A method (130) for optimizing call service in a VLAN (134) including at least one Voice over Internet Protocol device involves determining the current traffic levels of the VLAN (134), then adjusting the priority handling of data packets (108) in the VLAN (134) in relationship to current traffic levels so that voice packets receive an optimum number of network resources (136). Default priorities are used when level of traffic is in a normal range (140). During times when network traffic is below the normal range, signaling data packets may be increased in priority (148) and when network level of traffic is above the normal range, the priority of all data packets except for voice data packets will be decreased (144).

  • Publication number: 20020080808
Abstract: Disclosed is a method (100) for any Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) environment, for handling of packet data within the VLAN environment. The method (100) comprises receiving a data packet (61) in a VLAN-aware device. Next, examining a plurality of attributes of the data packet (61). Finally, modifying the priority queue of the data packet (61) in relationship to the nature of the attributes.
