  • Patent number: 9596588
Abstract: A Mobility Management Entity (MME) of a wireless network and verification method for verifying a Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) of a roaming Wireless Communication Device (WCD) are provided. The MME in one example includes an interface configured to receive a roaming request of the roaming WCD and a processing system coupled to the interface. The processing system is configured to obtain a home CQI of the roaming WCD, compare the home CQI to a contract-stipulated CQI for the roaming WCD, and use the contract-stipulated CQI for the roaming WCD if the home CQI differs from the contract-stipulated CQI.

  • Patent number: 9191858
Abstract: A system information message is received by a wireless device. The system information message was broadcast from a first access node using a first frequency band. Cell loading information is extracted from the system information message. Based on the cell loading information, it is determined whether to connect the wireless device to the first access node using the first frequency band, or to a second access node using a second frequency band. The second access node is also broadcasting system information messages that include cell loading information.

  • Patent number: 8938229
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for alleviating and overriding throttled conditions in Long Term Evolution networks are provided. In embodiments, indications that throttled conditions have been reached are received at Mobile Management Entities. Cause codes are communicated, in embodiments, to mobile devices directing the mobile devices to refrain from further attach attempts. In embodiments, attach attempts associated with unique identifiers are received by the Mobile Management Entities that override throttled conditions. In embodiments, authentication failure conditions from the Mobile Management Entities are detected. Algorithms are invoked, in embodiments, to initiate cell barring modes for base stations and detect failure percentages.

  • Patent number: 8818387
Abstract: Disclosed are a method, apparatus, and system for managing connections in a wireless communication network. When a user equipment device (UE) transitions between an idle state and an active state, a radio link is established between a base station and the UE and a core network link is established between the base station and a core network entity. In response to detecting that no data packets are exchanged between the UE and the base station, a timer is initiated. Further, in response to detecting that data packets are being exchanged between the UE and the base station, the timer is reset. The radio link is released in response to the timer reaching a first predetermined value associated with a first inactivity period and the core network link is released in response to the timer reaching a second predetermined value associated with a second inactivity period.
