  • Publication number: 20050190968
Abstract: In order to improve a sense of contrast of an image signal without increasing the number of conversion conditions stored in advance, an image signal processing method of this invention includes steps of: dividing a range of possible values of input image signals into a plurality of regions, successively accumulating the number of image signals belonging to the respective regions among the image signals input during a predetermined period for the respective regions, and setting a successive accumulation result as an evaluation value; comparing the evaluation value with a predetermined value; selecting a conversion condition corresponding to a difference between the evaluation value and the predetermined value from among a plurality of conversion conditions stored in advance to correspond to one of the regions in which the evaluation value exceeds the predetermined value; and converting the image signals input under the selected conversion condition.

  • Publication number: 20050156869
Abstract: This invention discloses an arrangement allowing connection of various kinds of image displays to one supply source in an image display control system having a supply source for transmitting a signal including at least a video signal, and an image display for receiving the signal and displaying a corresponding image. The supply source acquires characteristic data of the image display when it is powered on, determines a signal communication specification with the image display based on the acquired characteristic data, and communicates a signal including the video signal with the determined communication specification. The image display transmits characteristic data for specifying the characteristics of the image display to the supply source, and communicates the signal including the video signal in accordance with the determined communication specification. This invention also discloses an arrangement permitting changing the specifications and version of the control program of the image display.

  • Publication number: 20040174353
Abstract: To provide a bright, high-image-quality image display apparatus, in an overlap scanning mode in which two scan-wiring lines are selected simultaneously in each horizontal scanning period, high-frequency emphasis filtering is performed on a video signal so that a gain at a spatial frequency corresponding to ½ of a vertical critical resolution is within the range of 0 dB to +6 dB. It is even preferable that a gain of this high-frequency emphasis filtering at a spatial frequency corresponding to {fraction (7/10)} of the vertical critical resolution be higher than or equal to +3 dB. For example, this high-frequency emphasis filtering can be implemented by a 3-tap FIR filter having filter coefficients (h1, h2, h3)=(−x/2, 1+x, −x/2).

  • Publication number: 20040160406
Abstract: Provided is an image display apparatus for reducing flicker disturbance so as to suppress cost increase and for carrying out improvement of display and luminance with a high display refresh rate at low cost. A scanning wiring driving unit for generating a signal of a frequency Fb applies a scanning signal to a plurality of scanning wirings which are a part of a plurality of scanning wirings. In a next selection period following to a predetermined selection period, by shifting by a portion of the scanning wiring to which the scanning signal was applied in a previous stage, a scanning signal is applied to a plurality of scanning wirings. Further, in any one of the selection periods, a scanning signal is applied to a plurality of scanning wirings simultaneously, n pieces of scanning wirings are sequentially scanned by use of a frequency of n×Fb and below.

  • Publication number: 20040125046
Abstract: Improved is luminance of an image display apparatus in which a display panel is configured by a matrix wired plurality of electron emitting devices, and long life thereof is tried to be realized. In one select period, a scanning signal is applied to a plurality of scan interconnection. In a subsequent select period, a scanning signal is applied to a plurality of scan interconnections which were shifted with one scan interconnection portion. Between scanning signals, a low level portion is disposed. Also, pulse width modulation is carried out.

  • Publication number: 20030085905
Abstract: A detection unit which includes an image display panel, brightness averaging unit, scene changeover detection unit, and brightness suppression unit in order to provide an image display apparatus having an ABL that does not give the observer any visual sense of incompatibility without increasing the circuit scale determines the presence/absence of a scene changeover on the basis of the frame differential or second order differential of the average brightness. If a scene changeover takes place, the display brightness is changed quickly, and if no scene changeover occurs, changed slowly.

  • Patent number: 6294876
Abstract: This invention stabilizes the electron emission amount and displays an image on the entire display screen with a luminance faithful to an original image signal, while preventing characteristic degradation and destruction of an electron source. In an apparatus according to this invention, a V/I converter (108) includes n independent constant current sources in correspondence with n column-direction wirings. Each constant current source (108) is made up of an operational amplifier, transistor, and resistor. A voltage limiting circuit (209) uses a diode (D). A limit value setting circuit (110) is constituted by, e.g., a D/A converter and buffer amplifier or a potentiometer and buffer amplifier connected to a power supply. A spike current absorbing means (211) uses a capacitor (C). As the capacitance increases, the wiring voltage rise (&Dgr;Vs) decreases. Thus, the necessary capacitance of the capacitor (C) of the spike current absorbing means (211) is desirably 0.1 &mgr;F or more.
