  • Patent number: 8793267
Abstract: Constraints that restrict how corresponding identifiable groups of files are stored in a database, are enforced on corresponding file data. In response to a query on any data from an identifiable group of files, the effect of the constraint on how the corresponding data is stored is determined. The original query is rewritten, based on the effect of the constraint, so that the rewritten query is directed to a particular subset of the data stored in the database. Consequently, the search space is restricted to an identifiable subset of the database and execution of the rewritten query is more efficient than execution of the original query.

  • Patent number: 8725770
Abstract: A flexible and extensible architecture allows for secure searching across an enterprise. Such an architecture can provide a simple Internet-like search experience to users searching secure content inside (and outside) the enterprise. The architecture allows for the crawling and searching of a variety or of sources across an enterprise, regardless of whether any of these sources conform to a conventional user role model. The architecture further allows for security attributes to be submitted at query time, for example, in order to provide real-time secure access to enterprise resources. The user query also can be transformed to provide for dynamic querying that provides for a more current result list than can be obtained for static queries.

  • Patent number: 8626794
Abstract: A web crawler indexes documents including information about document contents and metadata including information such as a URL. However, some applications rely on URL's that change frequently or are constructed to include user information so that the contents retrieved is customized to the user. An approach is provided for storing generic URL's in an index at crawl time, which are customized for the user at search time. A callback mechanism may be used to dynamically transform the generic URL into a URL that is specific to the user issuing the query and/or includes current information that may change frequently. In this way, when the query or search results are returned to the user, the user receives links that are active and valid for that particular user, directing the user to the appropriate site, application, etc. without requiring continuous updating of a very large index.

  • Patent number: 8601028
Abstract: It is desirable to provide a secure search mechanism to provide for searching over any and all content, such as across an enterprise. A secure search, however, requires access to the secure content repositories holding the data to be searched. In some cases the credentials required to crawl a repository may be extremely sensitive, or the user may be reluctant or unwilling to store user identification information in memory or on disk for any longer than is absolutely necessary. An approach is provided that allows a user or an administrator to provide security credentials to be stored and used only during a crawl, and to erase the credentials from the system when the crawl is complete.

  • Publication number: 20130246561
Abstract: Aspects of the subject matter described herein relate migrating message for a messaging service. In aspects, a determination is made that messages need to be migrated based on a threshold being crossed. In response, an agent is instructed to migrate data associated with the messages to another location. The agent uses various factors to determine one or more queues to migrate. While a queue is being migrated, during a first portion of the migration, messages may be added to and removed from the queue as senders send new messages and receivers consume messages. During a second portion of the migration, the queue is frozen to disallow the queue to be used for receiving new messages and delivering queued messages. The migration may be orchestrated to attempt to achieve certain goals.

  • Patent number: 8484417
Abstract: Version indicators within an existing range can be associated with a data partition in a distributed data store. A partition reconfiguration can be associated with one of multiple partitions in the data store, and a new version indicator that is outside the existing range can be assigned to the reconfigured partition. Additionally, a broadcast message can be sent to multiple nodes, which can include storage nodes and/or client nodes that are configured to communicate with storage nodes to access data in a distributed data store. The broadcast message can include updated location information for data in the data store. In addition, a response message can be sent to a requesting node of the multiple nodes in response to receiving from that node a message that requests updated location information for the data. The response message can include the requested updated location information.

  • Patent number: 8478760
Abstract: Commonly searched nodes of complex data types contained in a collection of XML documents can be projected to, and their values can be stored in, corresponding columns in XML Table Index tables in a database system. In one embodiment, those columns stores logical pointers, rather than raw values, of the complex data types. Domain indexes are further provided to index at least one of the columns of complex data types in XML Table Indexes. The inclusion of complex data types and domain indexes provide a more efficient mechanism for searching domain specific data, such as audio, video, text stored in the collection of XML documents. Query optimizer logic of the database system can prepare one or more query execution plans for a submitted query including a plan that leverages XML Table Indexes and domain indexes and select a query execution plan based on cost information.

  • Patent number: 8463801
Abstract: Techniques for effectively and efficiently supporting XML sequence type and XQuery sequence natively in a SQL system are described. According to one aspect, SQL functions that correctly handle XML sequences are provided. Thus, XML sequences are handled effectively. According to another aspect, rules for simplifying an abstract syntax tree (AST) that represents one or more such SQL functions are provided. For each such SQL function that is represented in an AST that represents a SQL query, one or more rules that are relevant to that SQL function are determined. Relevant rules are applied to the representation of the SQL function within the AST. Through the application of the rules to the representations of the SQL functions within the AST, the AST is modified in a manner that simplifies the AST prior to the evaluation of the AST at query execution time. Thus, XML sequences are handled efficiently.

  • Patent number: 8412717
Abstract: Search term ranking algorithms can be generated and updated based on customer settings, such as where a ranking algorithm is modeled as a combination function of different ranking factors. An end user of a search system provides personalized preferences for weighted attributes, generally or for a single instance of the query. The user also can indicate the relative importance of one or more ranking factors by specifying different weights to the factors. Ranking factors can specify document attributes, such as document title, document body, document page rank, etc. Based on the attribute weights and the received user query, a ranking algorithm function will produce the relevant value for each document corresponding to the user preferences and personalization configurations.

  • Publication number: 20130066977
Abstract: Network and storage calls are reduced by batching messages. Messages are collected from a client and sent to the gateway or backend application in one round trip. Alternatively, the messages are collected for different entities, and the batched messages are durably stored. Related messages, which may have the same sessionID, are grouped into a logical unit or session. This session may be locked to a single message consumer. A session may be associated with an application processing state as an atomic unit of work while other operations are performed on the messages in the session. Acknowledgements are accumulated by a broker on a message server, but the messages are not immediately deleted. Instead, multiple messages in a selected range are periodically truncated from a message store in a single operation. Expired messages for active sessions are proactive cleaned up to prevent sessions from reaching a quota or limit.

  • Patent number: 8375043
Abstract: An XQuery access API is described, for providing access to XML data from a data source, using the XQuery language. A requestor can request, from a server, performance of an operation on XML data, wherein request messages and response messages conform to the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP). Request and response messages can be transmitted using Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) or Hypertext Transfer Protocol over Secure Socket Layer (HTTPS). The format of the request and response messages is specified in a definition of a Web service, where the definition conforms to the Web Service Description Language (WSDL).
