Disclosed herein is a non-naturally occurring plasmid comprising a nucleic acid encoding a transposase. Disclosed herein is a method for transforming a Wolbachia cell, comprising introducing a non-naturally occurring plasmid into the cell, wherein the plasmid comprises a nucleic acid sequence capable of transforming a Wolbachia cell.
