  • Patent number: 7544908
Abstract: A cradle and a method for adapting a circuit breaker for mounting in a switchgear cabinet having a bus bar system. The cradle includes a frame to which a racking apparatus and a locking apparatus are mounted. The racking apparatus is operable to move the cradle into and out of electrical connection with the bus bar system. The locking apparatus has a first operating state, wherein the locking apparatus prevents the circuit breaker from being disposed in the frame and allows the racking apparatus to operate, and a second operating state, wherein the locking apparatus allows the circuit breaker to be disposed in the frame and prevents the racking apparatus from operating.

  • Patent number: 7124488
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system for modifying a circuit breaker for removable installation in a cell of switchgear system, wherein the unmodified circuit breaker is not adapted for mounting in the cell. The system includes an adapter frame to which the circuit breaker is mounted and gear assemblies mounted to opposing sides of the circuit breaker. The gear assemblies adapt a racking device of the circuit breaker so as to be operable to rack the circuit breaker within the cell of the switchgear system.

  • Patent number: 6689968
Abstract: A presently-preferred capacitor discharge system for a circuit breaker adapted for use in a switchgear enclosure comprises a capacitor discharge circuit adapted to be electrically coupled to the capacitor, and a contact switch electrically coupled to the capacitor discharge circuit and adapted to be mechanically coupled to a support truck of the circuit breaker. The contact switch is movable between a first and a second position. The system also comprises a resistor electrically coupled to the capacitor discharge circuit, and a lever arm adapted to be rigidly coupled to a racking mechanism of the circuit breaker and adapted to urge the contact switch into the closed position when a locking arm of the racking mechanism disengages from the switchgear enclosure. The capacitor discharge system is adapted to electrically couple the capacitor and the resistor when the contact switch is in the second position thereby discharging the capacitor.

  • Patent number: 6545234
Abstract: A presently-preferred embodiment of a circuit breaker comprises a contact mechanism adapted to be electrically coupled to an electrical circuit. The contact mechanism comprises a first contact member and a second contact member being movable in relation to the first contact member. The circuit breaker also comprises an actuator mechanism comprising an armature mechanically coupled to the second contact member. The armature is selectively positionable between a closed position in which the armature urges the second contact member into electrical contact with the first contact member thereby permitting energization of the electrical circuit, and an open position in which the armature urges the second contact member away from the first contact member thereby inhibiting energization of the electrical circuit.

  • Patent number: 5691518
Abstract: An automotive secondary disconnect mechanism for a removable circuit device is disclosed. According to a preferred embodiment, the disconnect mechanism comprises a guide bar, a slide block mounted on the guide bar and means for locking the slide block in place on the guide bar, for releasing the slide block from its locked position, for enabling the slide block to move relative to the guide bar, for latching the removable element to the slide block, and for preventing the removable element from engaging the slide block all as the removable element is moved among first, second and third positions.

  • Patent number: 5434369
Abstract: An automatic secondary disconnect mechanism for an electrical switchgear apparatus having an enclosure and a removable circuit device is disclosed. According to a preferred embodiment, the automatic secondary disconnect mechanism comprises a guide rail mounted to the enclosure so as to extend substantially parallel to the racking motion of the circuit device; a slide member slidably mounted on the guide rail; apparatus for locking the slide member in place on the guide rail at a point corresponding to a test position of the circuit device; and apparatus for releasing the slide member when the circuit device reaches the test position from the disconnect position. One of a pair of mating secondary contact members is coupled to the slide member, while the other mating contact member is coupled to the circuit device.
