  • Patent number: 4500796
Abstract: A system and method of electrically interconnecting a multiplicity of electrical lighting fixtures is disclosed in which up to three phase AC power and up to five conductors (i.e., one conductor for each phase, a ground conductor, and a neutral conductor) is used in such manner that selected groups or branches of the lighting fixtures may be independently, selectively controlled, and such that wiring to the fixtures and control switches may be readily plugged into place.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 13, 1983
Date of Patent: February 19, 1985
    Assignee: Emerson Electric Co.
    Inventor: Murray L. Quin, deceased
  • Patent number: 4134045
Abstract: Prewired lighting fixtures and prewired tap boxes each having an input and output receptacle are electrically interconnected by flexible connecting cables having a plug-in connector at each end. The tap boxes have additional output receptacles for connection of branch circuits and some have output receptacles for connection of plug-in switch drop cables. Three wires, one of which is common, extend throughout the system and provide alternate two-wire circuits to facilitate selective switching, reduction in voltage drop, and economy of material.

  • Patent number: 4097919
Abstract: An illumination system, particularly adapted to use in hospitals, has an elongated, low-profile fluorescent lighting fixture on the side of and parallel to a track, a reading-examination light mounted on one end of a telescoping boom, the other end of which is swingably connected to a boom mount rotatably carried by a carriage mounted to roll along the track. The lighting fixture includes means for providing low brightness down lighting and higher brightness side lighting. The reading-examination light is so constructed as to permit two levels of illumination from a single light source and color correction in a small, balanced, easily manipulated unit. The telescoping boom and its mounting are so constructed as to be light, strong and stable in any position within wide limits. The carriage is so constructed as to permit easy transport of the boom and light, and positive and continuous connection of electrical conductors within the boom to a source of current.
