    Abstract: A device for operating a gate includes a pushbar which is located on each side of the gate and which is attached by cable to a spring-loaded bolt from a latch on the gate post. Each pushbar includes a sleeve mounted for free rotation relative thereto. The latch means is located adjacent the bottom of the gate so as to minimize the possibility of animals inserting their heads under the latch and opening the gate.
