    Abstract: Tertiary-alkylamino-lower acyl-xylidides have unusually long lasting local anaesthetic effect or high local anaesthetic activity while also having a satisfactory low level of tissue irritation and a satisfactory low acute toxicity. Combinations of such local anaesthetics with the biotoxins tetrodotoxin or saxitoxin are disclosed. Novel tertiary alkyl secondary amines, and methods for preparing such local anaesthetics and amines are also disclosed.
