  • Patent number: 6483904
Abstract: A method and system for providing a telephone subscriber line high-speed access to a computer network is described. The telephone subscriber line is provided telephone service through a network access equipment. The network access equipment includes a telephone line function interface, access control logic, a high-speed interface, and a Remote Access Server. In a described embodiment, the network access equipment also provides access to a high-speed interface connected to a Remote Access Server providing access to the computer network. The access control logic recognizes the telephone numbers of telephone lines accessing the computer network which are provided telephone service through the network access equipment. These telephone lines can be connected to a high-speed interface connected to the Remote Access Server providing access to the computer network.

  • Patent number: 6233237
Abstract: A method and protocol for creating R2 data connections over a telecommunications connection is presented. The protocol includes a small set of signals used to create a data connection over a telecommunications using R2-MFC signaling for voice connections. The method includes a first set of methods for R2-MFC short cycling and a second set of methods for R2-MFC spoofing. R2-MFC short cycling uses the R2 data connection protocol and a tone detection apparatus to create a data connection. R2-MFC spoofing uses the R2 data connection protocol to create a data connection without a tone detection apparatus to detect a forward register signal. The method and protocol allow a data connection to be quickly and economically completed using R2-MFC signaling. The method and protocol are suitable for data services such as Internet or intranet access and teleconferencing.

  • Patent number: 5983282
Abstract: A method and system for computer access is provided. The method and system include an integrated remote access system comprising multiple cooperating non-dedicated remote access servers that provide access to a computer network such as the Internet, an intranet or other computer network for a switching office on a Public Switched Telephone Network ("PSTN"). The integrated remote access system is assigned a unique office code and other switching offices in the PSTN route access requests for the computer network to the integrated remote access system as though it were an actual switching office. No actual line numbers or ports are assigned by the PSTN for the integrated remote access system, increasing the number of available lines and ports on actual switching offices. The integrated remote access system eliminates the need for dedicated remote access servers to provide access to a computer network thereby decreasing costs for a network access server provider.
