  • Publication number: 20110140091
Abstract: A light emissive or photovoltaic device comprising: a cathode structure for injecting electrons, the cathode structure having one or more constituent regions; an anode structure for injecting holes, the anode structure having one or more constituent regions; and an organic light emissive component located between the anode structure and the cathode structure; the refractive indices and the thicknesses of the or each constituent region of the cathode and anode structures and of the light emissive component being such that the emission or absorption spectrum of the device is substantially angularly dependent.

  • Patent number: 7826510
Abstract: A laser oscillation element 1 according to the invention comprises a cholesteric liquid crystal layer 2 containing cholesteric liquid crystals, a cholesteric liquid crystal layer 3 containing cholesteric liquid crystals facing the cholesteric liquid crystal layer 2, and a defect layer 4 containing a dye 5 which emits fluorescence upon optical excitation disposed between the cholesteric liquid crystal layers 2, 3. A selective reflection wavelength band in the cholesteric liquid crystals overlaps with the emission band of the fluorescence emitted by the dye 5, the helical winding directions of the cholesteric liquid crystals contained in the cholesteric liquid crystal layers 2, 3 are identical, and the transition moments of the dye 5 are aligned parallel to the surfaces of the cholesteric liquid crystal layers 2, 3. According to the laser oscillation element 1, a laser oscillation can be generated with high efficiency. Moreover, continuous wave lasing can be generated.

  • Patent number: 7701537
Abstract: An optical diode. A cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) layer has a selective reflection wavelength band with a left-handed helical structure, and a phase shifter for changing a phase difference between two intrinsic polarized light components of left-handed circularly polarized light having a wavelength within the selective reflection wavelength band of the CLC layer. When left-handed circularly polarized light having a wavelength within the selective reflection wavelength band of the CLC layer is incident on the phase shifter in the optical diode, the phase shifter turns the left-handed circularly polarized light into right-handed circularly polarized light, which can be transmitted through the CLC layer. When left-handed circularly polarized light having a wavelength within the selective reflection wavelength band of the CLC layer is incident on the CLC layer, it is selectively reflected by the CLC layer.

  • Patent number: 5964090
Abstract: Disclosed is automatic fluid pressure-intensifying apparatus and method of a hydraulic traveling device for increasing a traveling capability or a pulling capability of a heavy equipment by changing a relief pressure in a hydraulic circuit under the state that a working device of the heavy equipment does not operate and a traveling device only operates. In the automatic fluid pressure-intensifying apparatus of the hydraulic traveling device, a first control valve selectively changes a flow direction of a hydraulic fluid being supplied by a hydraulic pump toward a traveling motor of the heavy equipment. Further, a second control valve selectively changes the flow direction of the hydraulic fluid being supplied by the hydraulic pump toward a working device of the heavy equipment. A relief valve restricts an allowable maximum pressure in a hydraulic circuit.
