Abstract: A method and system for displaying a screen in a mobile device are provided. The method includes displaying a list of items where the items are arranged in a three-dimensional form, viewed from a side, receiving a command for altering the display form of the list of items, and altering and displaying the image of the list of items, viewed from the side, into an image of the list of items viewed from above. The method and system allow a user to easily and rapidly search for a corresponding item on a screen of a mobile device.

A music composition method includes setting an accompaniment with chords varying according to the progress of a unit play time; playing the accompaniment; displaying, when a series of touches are detected, a trace of the touches; playing a melody of tones mapped to positions of the touches and matching notes of a note scale defined by chords of the accompaniment playing at the times when the touches are detected; and saving the trace, melody, and accompaniment as a music piece as an ensemble.

Abstract: A method for receiving a user's gesture-based input and apparatus of a mobile device is provided. The method and apparatus halts an input function by a particular mode that is executed when a present event occurs on the mobile device, creates a new input area, allows for a user's gesture-based input, and controls the function of the mobile device according to the user's gesture. The method includes: sensing an event that occurs while the mobile device is operating in a particular mode; and creating a new input area for receiving a user's gesture-based input and providing it. When the event occurs, the input function with respect to data of the particular mode is halted. The new input area is provided as a fog screen having a fog effect. The functions of the mobile device are controlled according to a user's gestures that are performed on the fog screen.

Abstract: Disclosed is a apparatus and a method for displaying various character effects on a character input screen of a mobile station using a differentiated graphic element according to a key input signal. In the method a visual character theme set by a user is displayed in a character input mode, and a character input effect corresponding to the visual character theme is shown according to a key input signal. Accordingly, since the mobile station can show a visual character input effect in every key input sequence by allowing the user to select a desired visual character theme in advance, an entertaining effect is added to a user interface of the mobile station.

Abstract: Provided is a method of controlling a pointer, such as changing between a pointer mode for activating the pointer and a search key mode for deactivating the pointer, in a mobile terminal having a pointing device. The method of controlling a pointer includes detecting movement input by the pointing device; identifying whether the detected movement satisfies a condition of changing a display mode; if the detected movement satisfies a condition of changing a display mode, displaying the pointer by changing the current display mode to a pointer mode; identifying whether a specific key is input; and if the specific key is input, hiding the pointer by changing the current display mode to a search key mode. Additionally, if elapsed time measured after displaying the pointer exceeds a predetermined value, the display mode of the mobile terminal may automatically be changed to a search key mode.

A first area is an output area for displaying an object, and a second area for displaying a Graphic User Interface (GUI) is a control area for controlling navigation of the object. When an event for navigation occurs in one of the first area and the second area, change information according to the navigation is provided in both the first area and the second area, so that a touch screen can be manipulated without any blockage of an image.

A first touch zone in the GUI is disposed adjacently and symmetrically to a second touch zone in the PUI. The touch zones may receive continuous contacts that occur thereon. The continuous contacts may be accepted as a single gestural input, which is used to control a particular operation of the electronic device.
