    Abstract: Provided in this document are examples of a multifocal ophthalmic lens. The lens includes a base lens having a base curvature corresponding to a base power; and a diffractive structure comprising a plurality of annular echelettes formed on a first surface of the base lens. The diffractive structure is configured to produce a zero-order diffraction corresponding to a distance vision focal point determined by the base power, the diffraction efficiency of the zero-order diffraction between 45% and 55%; a first-order diffraction having a diffraction efficiency between 5% and 10%; a second-order diffraction corresponding to an intermediate vision focal point, the diffraction efficiency between 15% and 20%; and a third-order diffraction corresponding to a near vision focal point, the diffraction efficiency between 15% and 25%. The diffractive structure includes a plurality of annular diffractive steps, each defined by a profile having a curved slope and a peak.
