  • Patent number: 4355986
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an outboard motor comprising a transom bracket adapted to be fixed to a boat transom and having a generally flat mounting surface for engagement with the back of the transom, a swivel bracket, a pivot on the swivel bracket and on the transom bracket rearwardly of the mounting surface for pivotally connecting the swivel bracket and the transom bracket for tilting movement between a normal operating position and a raised tilt position and about a tilt axis which is generally horizontal when the transom bracket is fixed to the boat transom, a propulsion unit including a powerhead and a lower unit rigidly secured to the powerhead, and a pivot connected to the propulsion unit and located below the powerhead and connected to the swivel bracket for pivotally connecting the propulsion unit and the swivel bracket for steering movement about an axis transverse to the tilt axis and such that the propulsion unit remains rearwardly of the plane of the transom bracket mounting surface throughout movemen

  • Patent number: 4337053
Abstract: A marine propulsion device comprises a marine propulsion unit including an engine and a rotatably mounted propeller which is operatively connected with the engine. The engine has a throttle movable between an idle position and an advanced position. A steering tiller is attached to the marine propulsion unit, and a throttle grip having an exterior gripping surface is rotatably attached on the steering tiller. A throttle linkage assembly operatively connects the throttle grip with the throttle for moving the throttle between the idle position and the advanced position in response to rotation of the throttle grip. An idle adjustment assembly is carried by the throttle grip and is operatively connected with the throttle linkage assembly for adjusting the low operational engine speed above the true idle speed of the engine.

  • Patent number: 4282704
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a filament mower comprising a housing having a main portion with a depending wall and a housing extension movable between a generally horizontally outwardly extending guard position and a retracted position, which extension includes a first segment hinged to the housing main portion about a first axis extending transversely to the direction of intended mower movement for upward movement from the guard position, and a second segment hinged to the first segment about a second axis spaced from the first axis and extending transversely to the direction of intended mower movement for movement about the second axis in the rotary direction opposite to the direction of rotary movement of the first segment about the first axis. The mower also includes resilient means biasing the housing extension toward the guard position, a plurality of wheels supporting the housing, a filament head carried by and within the housing and including a filament string, and means on the housing for rotating the head.

  • Patent number: 4134942
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method for producing foamed articles, such as seat cushions for a riding lawn mower or the like, which method includes the steps of providing a mold having at least two separable, electrically insulated mold sections, which, when positioned together in a molding position, cooperate to define a molding chamber having the shape of the article, providing each mold section with a separate radio frequency electrode, introducing a foamable and heat curable material into the mold cavity, and applying a radio frequency voltage across the electrodes, and thus through the foamable and heat curable material, after the mold sections are positioned together in a molding position. The resultant internal heating of the material rapidly cures the material to a hardened condition and without generating high internal pressure forces inside the molding chamber.
