  • Patent number: 5251810
Abstract: A remailable envelope having an address window for displaying the return address, first and second sealing flaps attached to opposite envelope panels, the first flap having tear line defining elements for initially opening the envelope without damaging the envelope or the second flap, the first flap being longer than the second flap and being long enough to cover the address window during the first mailing.

  • Patent number: 5213258
Abstract: A reusable, returnable envelope is disclosed, which has a removable front cover sheet and a resealable closure flap. A primary envelope body has a front wall, a back wall, and a sealable closure flap. A tear-away front cover sheet is secured over the face of the front wall and carries a first address. After removal of the cover sheet, the front wall is exposed, which forms an address area and can be provided with a pre-printed return address. The closure flap includes at least two adhesive areas separated by at least one tear strip element and at least one guide strip associated therewith. On the first use of the envelope, the closure flap is opened without destruction by pulling on the tear strip, severing the original flap across its width and forming a new, shorter closure flap. The envelope is readied for its second use by removal of the front cover sheet and resealing of the closure flap using the second adhesive area.

  • Patent number: 5203634
Abstract: A tear strip opening device for containers, packages, letters, etc. which comprises opposed, preferably mirror image guide strip structures, mounted externally and internally of the panel to be opened. Each of the structures is constructed to be tearable in a longitudinal direction along opposed lines of weakness, when the external and internal structures are mounted directly opposite to and longitudinally coextensive with each other. A strip section of the external structure forms a guide strip, while a strip section of the internal structure forms a tear strip. Typically, the external structure will form two spaced-apart guide strip elements, while a central section of the internal structure will form a single tear strip element cooperating with the spaced-apart external guide strip elements.

  • Patent number: 5054618
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a container with a tear-open feature. A pair of closure flaps is bridged by a sealing tape structure which includes a central, tearable band bridging the area between the flaps, and spaced-apart guide means on opposite sides of the tear band, adhesively secured to the container flaps. The guide means may advantageously comprise plastic strips which are separate from but mounted on a carrier tape, or which may be an integral part of the tape structure joined to the central tearable strip by lines of weakness.

  • Patent number: 5050741
Abstract: A tear strip opening construction is disclosed, for providing a wide tear strip opening feature for corrugated cartons and other containers. A pair of spaced-apart tear band elements are mounted in parallel relation to the inside surface of the container wall, typically extending about the entire periphery of the container. A pair of cooperating guide strip elements are mounted on the outside surface of the container wall, arranged in parallel relation to the internal tear bands, with the respective inside edges of the guide strips being substantially aligned with the respective outside edges of the tear bands. Both the tear bands and the guide strips are formed of a relatively non-tearable material, such as plastic tape. A relatively wide strip of wall material is included between the inside edges of the guide strips. A reinforced gripping portion is provided at one end extremity of the container wall, extending substantially from one guide strip to the other.

  • Patent number: 5035329
Abstract: A tear strip opening device disposed on a sealing portion of a container which comprises a non-tearable plastic strip or ridge positioned on the inside thereof along a perforated punch line and a non-tearable material e.g. a small plastic band disposed outside of the sealing portion thereof and on the opposite side of the non-tearable strip. Thus, the plastic strip or ridge disposed between the non-tearable band and a glued portion disposed on the inside of the sealing portion thereof is in substantially parallel relationship to the plastic band for use in easily and readily opening the container.

  • Patent number: 5035328
Abstract: A composite guide strip structure is disclosed, for use as a tear opening element for a container wall. A pair of guide strip elements are mounted on a carrier strip in spaced-apart, parallel relation. The carrier strip is of a material that tears easily, at least in the lengthwise direction, while the guide strips are resistant to tear in the lateral direction. The composite structure is adhesively secured to the outside wall of a container, either by adhesively securing the carrier strip itself, or by adhering the spaced-apart guide strip elements, with the carrier strip on the outside. A tear band is normally mounted on the interior surface of the container wall, opposite the spaced between the respective guide strip elements. The composite structure advantageously is supplied in roll form, for easy, convenient application to the container wall, enabling a plurality of guide strip elements to be applied in a single structure.

  • Patent number: 4936464
Abstract: A device for opening a package which comprises a sealing tape, a band or thread adhesively attached to the inside surface of the sealing tape, and a pair of adhesive portions pasted by an adhesive whereby when the band or thread is freed from the package and pulled away from the package, the package can be readily opened with a straight tear line which extends along the surface of the package.

  • Patent number: 4877139
Abstract: A tear band opening device disposed on an opening-closing flap of a container which comprises a non-tearable plastic or metal tear band positioned on the inside thereof along a perforated punch line and a non-tearable plastic guide strip. Thus, the tear band disposed between the guide strip and a glued portion disposed on the inside of the flap thereof is in substantially parallel relationship to the guide strip for use in easily and readily opening the container.
