  • Patent number: 6810387
Abstract: A copy prevention apparatus and method in a digital broadcasting receiving system protects information stored in a storage medium from being illegally duplicated by an unauthorized third party. The copy prevention apparatus includes a demultiplexer for descrambling scrambled transport stream (TS) patterned data of a user selective and desired channel among a received multi-channel broadcasting and outputting the descrambled result, a scrambler for scrambling again the descrambled TS patterned data from the TS demultiplexer, a key encryption unit for decrypting the encrypted key of the scrambler and encrypting the decrypted key again, to thereby produce a new encryption key, and a system controller for controlling a storage medium to store the scrambled TS patterned data from the scrambler together with the encrypted scrambler key output from the key encryption unit during storing.

  • Patent number: 6680754
Abstract: A digital broadcasting receiver for realizing a picture-in-picture (PIP) screen using a plurality of decoders is provided. The digital broadcasting receiver includes a first decoder 30 and a second decoder 80 for decoding each of a plurality of broadcasting signals, and outputs two broadcasting signals on a PIP screen. That is, each of the broadcasting signals which are input simultaneously is decoded in the first decoder 30 and the second decoder 80, and the decoded image signals are output on the PIP screen. Thus, the digital broadcasting receiver provides an effect of performing a PIP screen function in which a plurality of decoders decode each of the broadcasting signals.

  • Publication number: 20020026647
Abstract: A multimedia device whose functions can be extended and a method for extending functions are provided. The multimedia device has a backplane unit having a plurality of connectors provided thereon, each of the connectors having a predetermined signal standard; a main board unit, which is plugged into a connector of the backplane unit, for processing an MPEG transport stream input from an extension board into a predetermined signal form, and selecting an extension board; and an extension board, which is attachable to any one of the connectors of the backplane, excluding the connector into which the main board unit is plugged, for transmitting an MPEG transport stream processed by an independent module to the main board unit when selected by the main board unit.

  • Patent number: 6337716
Abstract: A receiver for simultaneously displaying signals having different display formats and/or different frame rates, and a method thereof are provided. The receiver includes a signal generator, a first display processor, and a second display processor. The signal generator generates a first vertical synchronous signal for a high definition (HD) image, a first field identification signal for coping with a case in which an HD image is an interlace image, a second vertical synchronous signal for a standard image, and a second field identification signal for a standard image. The first display processor processes a received HD decoded image to an HD display format according to the first vertical synchronous signal and the first field identification signal.

  • Patent number: 5917950
Abstract: An image decoding apparatus having a frame rate transform function includes a first frame rate generator for generating a frame rate of a received coded image signal, a second frame rate generator for generating a frame rate of an image display device, and a frame rate transformer for receiving the frame rates, and generating an omission control signal for omitting a predetermined frame when the frame rate of the input image signal is larger than the frame rate of the image display device, while generating a repetition control signal for repeating a predetermined frame when the frame rate of the image signal is smaller than the frame rate of the image display device, and outputting the generated omission control signal and the repetition control signal to the decoder.

  • Patent number: 5761693
Abstract: A memory access method and apparatus which may access bytes of information from two contiguous memory segment addresses at a time. The amount of information which is accessed at one time is a memory access unit. The number of bytes in a memory segment is also the number of bytes in a memory access unit. The method and apparatus for accessing memory divides each memory segment between separate memories having the same number as the number of bytes in a memory segment. Each of the memories are simultaneously addressed according to a segment address input and an offset input, to thereby enable selected bytes of information stored through two contiguous memory segment addresses to be accessed. Although bytes in two contiguous memory segments may be accessed at a given moment, no more bytes than are contained in a memory access unit are accessed at a given moment.

  • Patent number: 5521643
Abstract: An adaptive coder includes a circuit for calculating the number of intraframe and interframe blocks in one frame to be coded. When the calculated picture data is supplied to the coder, a quantization controller selects one of a number of curves for the determination of quantization step sizes, to thereby take optimal advantage of the number of blocks of each mode applied to the mode determine. In particular, a frame having a relatively large number of intraframe blocks results in selection of a curve having a large quantization step size. In contrast, a frame having a relatively large number of interframe blocks results in selection of a curve having a small quantization step size. The quantization controller determines and outputs the quantization step size, thereby taking advantage of a present buffer occupancy rate and the determined curve.
