Patent number: 8544878Abstract: An active bolster for automotive crash protection has front and back walls with their outer peripheral edges sealed together to provide a bladder chamber therebetween. A gas source supplies an expansion gas to inflate the bladder chamber during a crash. The back wall has a pleated section comprising a plurality of generally-parallel rows of generally-circumferential pleats that unfold during inflation. The unfolding of the pleats controls a deployment trajectory of the front wall, and the pleats have an undulating transverse curve length corresponding to a maximum trajectory of the front wall. The pleated section further comprises a plurality of transverse ribs joining adjacent pleats in selected locations to reduced the unfolding during inflation to provide a modified deployment trajectory.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 2012Date of Patent: October 1, 2013Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Raymond E. Publication number: 20130220572Abstract: A molding assembly for making molded parts includes a molding tool having conformal fluid lines that follow contours of a molding surface of the molding tool. The conformal fluid lines are defined in the molding tool during casting by sacrificial displacement lines formed by a three-dimensional printer. A temperature control station is coupled to the molding tool and includes a heating and cooling fluid. A valve station regulates fluid flow to the molding tool.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 29, 2012Publication date: August 29, 2013Applicant: Ford Motor CompanyInventors: Charles Alan Rocco, Raymond Edward Kalisz, Jeffery N. Patent number: 8474868Abstract: An active bolster for an automotive vehicle has base wall for mounting against a rigid structure of the vehicle. A front wall overlies the base wall and forms an interior trim piece of the vehicle. The base wall has a first surface facing the front wall, and the front wall has a second surface facing the base wall. The base wall and front wall are joined around a closed perimeter to form an inflatable bladder with an initial open space between the first and second surfaces. The base wall includes a wide rib projecting from the first surface continuously along the closed perimeter, the wide rib having a minimum radial width along the closed perimeter equal to a first predetermined radial width. The front wall includes a plurality of narrow ribs projecting concentrically from the second surface continuously along the closed perimeter.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 2011Date of Patent: July 2, 2013Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Raymond E. Patent number: 7487712Abstract: An in-vehicle coffee maker includes a coffee mug and a brewing station that receives the mug, and has a lid that secures the mug therein. A pump supplies water to the lid from a water reservoir via a water line. A heating element heats the water to a predetermined temperature. The mug includes a mug portion, a drink cap, and a pod retainer. The drink cap includes a pod chamber to hold coffee grounds, and the pod retainer secures the coffee grounds therein. The pod retainer includes a opening for water to pass through, into the pod chamber, which in turn includes an opening for water to drain downward into the mug. The lid of the brewing station includes a nozzle that forms a sealed engagement with the opening in the pod retainer so water supplied from the reservoir to the lid flows into the pod chamber.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 2005Date of Patent: February 10, 2009Assignee: Visteon Global Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Upton Beall Bowden, Jeffery N. Conley, Kurt Nuler, Michael Aaron Haen, Richard R. Vaughan

Patent number: 7441093Abstract: A method, device, and system are disclosed. In one embodiment, the method comprises receiving a code segment to be inserted into a flash memory storing code segments, selecting one or more contiguous code segments in flash memory with a total size equal to or larger than the received code segment, calculating the amount of data movement necessary for the one or more selected contiguous code segments, and if the amount is minimum, moving the one or more selected contiguous code segments and replacing them with the received code segment.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2005Date of Patent: October 21, 2008Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Afshin Ganjoo, Christopher N. Patent number: 7332207Abstract: A component for an interior of a vehicle is provided, including a substrate, a skin cooperating with the substrate to define a cavity, and foam disposed within the cavity. The substrate includes a recess defining a side wall and a back wall. The skin includes a primary wall defining a show surface, a perimeter wall extending away from the primary wall and contacting the side wall, and a terminal wall extending away from the perimeter wall. The terminal wall further contacts and applies a force onto the back wall. The foam is disposed within the cavity such as to substantially seal at least one of the perimeter wall and the terminal wall against the substrate. The force acting on the back wall promotes a substantially flam-tight seal, thus preventing foam from leaking between the substrate and the skin.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2004Date of Patent: February 19, 2008Assignee: Visteon Global Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Robert C. Bondar, Jeffrey N. Conley, Francois Nelias

Publication number: 20050258066Abstract: The medication delivery device provides patient access to medications prescribed to be available on an as-needed basis, but with a minimum time intervals between doses. The device permits access to a single dose of the medication after each minimum time interval has elapsed. When the drug dose is removed from the device, the medication tray locks until the next minimum dosage time interval has elapsed.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 9, 2005Publication date: November 24, 2005Inventor: N. Patent number: 5001320Abstract: A pipe welding connector for joining pipe sections that have been internally coated with a heat sensitive coating material. The connector is arranged so that during the welding process, the coating remains below its degradation temperature. The connector has a first fixture at the end of one pipe section and a second fixture at the end of another pipe section. The first and second fixtures, when brought into abutting relationship, can be butt welded together to form the pipe welding connector. The second fixture is a cylinder that outwardly diverges into a bell and the opposed marginal end is of constant inside diameter and is attached about the exterior of a pipe section. Part of the pipe section extends from the belled marginal end and forms a stinger. The first fixture has an enlarged interior that telescopingly receives the stinger therein and further includes a belled marginal terminal end of a diameter equal to the diameter of the belled marginal end of the second fixture.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1988Date of Patent: March 19, 1991Inventors: Ralph N. Conley, Michael N. Pierce
