  • Patent number: 8217562
Abstract: Provided is an ignition plug used for an internal-combustion engine. The ignition plug includes: a center electrode; an insulator disposed outside the center electrode; a metal housing disposed outside the insulator; a ground electrode having an end connected to the metal housing and the other end facing the center electrode; and an electrode tip fixed to one or more of the center electrode and the ground electrode. The electrode tip is made of an alloy of iridium Ir, hafnium Hf, and niobium Nb. Therefore, the ignition plug with the low-cost iridium can have high resistance to prevent an iridium element from oxidizing and vaporizing in high speed driving conditions.

  • Patent number: 5171374
Abstract: A rapidly solidified aluminum base lithium containing alloy is subjected to at least one overaging treatment and a plurality of rolling passes. Upon completion of the process, the alloy is comprised of grains having an ultrafine grain size. A predominant number of the grains have grain boundaries pinned by the precipitation of Al.sub.3 Zr phase. The alloy has an elongation greater than 500% at temperature above about 500.degree. C. and a strain rate above about 4.times.10.sup.-2 /s.

  • Patent number: 4671827
Abstract: A high-strength, tough alloy steel is formed by heating an alloy steel comprising iron, 0.1-0.4 weight % carbon, 1-3 weight % manganese and 1-13 weight % chromium and optionally containing microalloying amounts of other metals to about 1150.degree. C. to form a stable homogeneous austenite phase, control rolling the steel at about 900.degree. C.-1100.degree. C., followed by rapid cooling to 950.degree. C. and again rolling at that temperature and then quenching the thusly rolled steel in liquid or by air cooling. Tempering at temperatures up to about 300.degree. C. may be effected to further increase the toughness of the steel.
