Abstract: A method and apparatus for activating a trigger mechanism at a data capture device having a touch display, and a data capture module is provided. In operation, a first region associated with a first application and an input region is provided on the touch display. An input is received at the device, including at least a touch sensor input from the touch display. Based on the input, an obtained input pattern may be identified. The identified input pattern may include at least one of a spatial pattern, a temporal pattern, a touch size and a hard-tap. When the identifying is successful, either an input may be provided to the first application or the trigger mechanism may be activated to initiate a data capture at the data capture module. Alternatively, when the identifying is successful, an operation associated with the first application may be performed or a mode of operation of the data capture device may be changed to a second mode.

Abstract: A method for restricting, based on predefined user profile information, access to software executing on a computing device of a user. The method comprises the following steps. Input data is intercepted from a user input device. The input data is compared with a list of restrictions in the user profile information to determining if an action associated with the input data is prohibited. The input data is passed to the software for execution only if the action associated with the input data is not prohibited. A method for restricting, based on predefined user profile information, access to notifications generated for a user is also provided.

Abstract: A method is provided for presenting battery degradation of a rechargeable battery to a user of an electronic device. The method comprising the following steps. An initial capacity and a remaining capacity of the rechargeable battery are obtained. The battery degradation is determined as a proportion of a difference between the initial capacity and the remaining capacity to the initial capacity. The battery degradation is visually displayed on a display of the electronic device as a battery gauge. A system to implement the method is also provided.

Abstract: A method and a system for customizing a handheld device being produced in manufacturing assembly. The method provides customization via configuration of the device by a server in a communication network. In response to a configuration predefined such via a customer purchase order, assigning, at the server, a group to the at least one handheld device, identifying, at the server, a configuration of components for download to the at least one handheld device, the configuration of components associated with the assigned group, and downloading, for installation at the handheld device, the configuration of components to the at least one handheld device of the assigned group.

Abstract: A system and method are described for displaying battery condition information on a display of a portable computer. After powering on the portable computer, battery condition information of a battery of the portable computer is retrieved. The retrieved battery condition information is displayed on the display of the portable computer and operating system (OS) loaded into an executable memory of the portable computer is executed.

Abstract: A method and system for managing power of a portable device is disclosed. The portable devices has a plurality device components that has controllable power settings. The device has a plurality of power profiles, each power profile referencing a list of the available device components that are configured for adequate power needs. Set of rules are then defined having a criterion for executing the plurality of power profiles, where the criterion is based on a device input. Once the rules and power profiles are created, the device inputs are monitored to determine if there is a match. If the criteria in the rules are matched, the corresponding power profile is executed to maximize battery life.

Abstract: A method is provided for representing battery degradation of a rechargeable battery for use with a battery operated device. The method comprises the following steps. At predefined intervals, the battery degradation of the rechargeable battery is determined. An indicator is selected from one of a plurality of predefined indicators based on the determined battery degradation. The selected indicator is displayed on a screen of a computing device for representing the battery degradation. A computing device configured to implement the method is also described.
